December 26, 200421 yr Castillo JuanE for Gibbons and Ryan?? Then move Easley to 2nd? We get rid of JuanE, get Gibbons whos healthy now and sees he can see now from lasic eye surgury, and get one of the best lefty relievers int he league, the big price would be castillo.
December 26, 200421 yr No, because I don't trust an Easley/Wilson Delgado combo at second for all of next year. Why would the Orioles do this deal anyway?
December 26, 200421 yr Author No, because I don't trust an Easley/Wilson Delgado combo at second for all of next year. Why would the Orioles do this deal anyway? 643021 A second baseman, a pure lead of man to get on for a bunch of power guys up next, plus there was talk about trading Gibbons. If prospects were added in byb the marlins who knows what a team would do.
December 26, 200421 yr I definetly would not throw prospects into this deal if I were the Marlins. In fact, I wouldn't make the deal as is. Gibbons is marginally better than Encarnacion and is left handed, but Castillo is much more valuable than B.J. Ryan right now. The Marlins don't have an adequate replacement for Castillo, and a second baseman is a much bigger hole to fill than a lefty reliever, and a much more valuable part of the team. I'm all for moving either Castillo or Pierre, because I don't believe the Marlins need two leadoff men. But not for this package.
December 26, 200421 yr Gibbons isn't enough of an upgrade over Enc to do that deal, but I would not hesitate to trade Luis if we were getting back a significant upgrade over Enc in right field and get rid of Enc in the process.
December 26, 200421 yr If BJ Ryan is traded traded to the Marlins, AJ Burnett goes to the O's. Though I am sure they would not turn away Luis Castillo, why would they want him? With Hairston, Roberts and Fontenot at 2B it is not a position of weakness.
December 26, 200421 yr Author Okay then how about this one, Huff and Trever Miller (3.12 in 49in) for JuanE and Castillo??
December 26, 200421 yr Deal with the Orioles, no. First off, why the fascination with trading an OF that only has one year left on his deal? Is the replacement going to be that much better? The answer is no. Deal with the DRays, that could peak my attention.
December 26, 200421 yr Huff would be a great pickup. I doubt the D-Rays would want Castillo and Enc in return, though, because they want to deal Huff in order to cut salary. The Marlins would have to give up a package of prospects, probably pitchers (Olsen, Bazardo (sp?), etc.) for Huff, most likely. If the deal is for the right prospects, it's definetly worth looking into, because Huff would be a great fit.

Based on his past stats he is practically the worst hitting starter in the MLB closely followed by AGON and Tony Batista. Encarnacion is horrendous. Now i agree we need to play him if we keep him just based on his enormous contract. But please dont try to tell me that there are no better options.
December 26, 200421 yr (regarding the original post in this thread). Nope. Gibbons now makes too much $$$, just had eye surgery, spends way too much time either injured or on the DL and unfortunately (because I like the guy) hasn't proven he can be an everyday MLB player. As for Easley (another guy I truly respect) if he could have gotten a starting job anywhere in baseball he wouldn't be here now. That should tell you something. Not to mention trading a GG 2nd baseman for a good but not great relief pitcher is like paying its weight in gold to get a Ford Taurus.

Gibbons isn't much better. Huff is the only person that I guess is semi-realistically possible to come and be light years ahead of Enc.
December 26, 200421 yr Did you just suggest sending the O's a second baseman when they're trying to get rid of one?
December 27, 200421 yr Okay then how about this one, Huff and Trever Miller (3.12 in 49in) for JuanE and Castillo?? 643055 :lol HA HA HA HA HA HA :lol HAHAHAHAHA! :lolup :rofl
December 27, 200421 yr How about we dont trade castillo away at all he is one of the loyalest players on our team. oh and btw hes awesome
December 27, 200421 yr Author Chill out people, the name of the thread is Would You Do This, not i think this might happen do you, it's not like any of those trade would go down, just looking for some baseball talk.
December 27, 200421 yr How can batista, AGON, and enc be the worst hitters in baseball?!?! Enc had a bad 2004, but his stats in 03 and 02 where average at worst. AGON has awesome power for a SS, and Batista had 100 RBIs. There are many many worse starters than those in the league, to think otherwise is absurd. Encarncacion is expesnive but w 1 year left and a helthy shoulder he may surprise many on the board. And ill be so bold as to say that this year he'll hit around .270 with 17 HR and 73 RBI

AGON has one baseballs worst OBP. and K's more than any other marlin. Also, take a look at how bad their average with runners in scoring position is. Same goes for Enc. I like AGON because he can field but i personally think he is a horrendeous hitter. Im a big believer in solid contact hitter with limited strikeouts. IMO
December 27, 200421 yr Yeah mean the Alex Gonzalez who had a higher RISP average than Miguel Cabrera, and who had the fourth best SLG % on the team of the regulars, all batting from the 8th spot?
December 27, 200421 yr You did not just call Miguel Cabrera a consistent run producer. 643477 thats what im trying to say... it proves my point from another thread the marlins are a very weak hitting team with alot of holes!
December 28, 200421 yr Author One more Would you Do This, Ben Sheets and Jenkins for Castillo and Burnett?
