Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...

Featured Replies

Rotoworld reported that the Marlins could look into trading Encarnacion/Stokes if the Marlins plug Delgado at first for the next few years.

Now everyone has there negative thoughts of Enc, but am I the only one who thinks that we shouldnt trade Enc just yet? I like Conine in the outfield, but Juan does have a canon for an arm and I think he could improve at the plate this year, if he is 100% healthy. The one negative I have against him is for what he did when we made the Series, when he was b!tching about not getting to play.

being said,we dont want negative guys on the team, i mean think this DELGADO COMES IN ENCARNACION IN THE BENCH AND THERE GOES THE BOMB

There are good reasons on both sides

The money issue shouldn't be the sole reason for trading Encarnacion. He only has one year, sure he's overpaid but is it really worth attaching a top prospect to save ourselves of one year over-valued contract?

But then again Stokes' value is decreasing year in and year out, he might never be an MLB caliber player nevermind a star. We might be best trading him now.

If we could snatch a decent prospect, hopefully a pitching prospect that has some chance of joining the MLB ranks within a year or so then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Just hear me out on this one:

Stokes' value is at it's peak because he's an on the fence prospect who I think will be very good, but will be blocked if we sign Delgado (unless we try him as a left-fielder).

Cabrera's not going anywhere, nor is Lowell or Lo Duca, and Hermida is the only untouchable in our organization, so you'd have to figure that in 2006, our team will feature Delgado, Cabrera, Lowell and Hermida...that blocks Stokes at just about any position...and it blocks Willingham too.

Now, if we're in it at the deadline...Stokes and Willingham will have value, value that could get us just about any player available if we package them together...I mean, would you rather rid yourslef of Encarnacion and give up Stokes, or would you rather hold on to Encarnacion as motivation for Conine and a defensive replacement for any outfield position in close game, and make a run at Ben Sheets at the deadline?

I think it's a no-brainer...

I like Enc but obviously it makes little sense to keep him if we sign Delgado and Conine moving back to the outfield but who would we trade him for? Prospects?

Unfortunately that isn't how it works. Aside from the fact that there is nothing short of Cabrera that would land Sheets, the team in the race is the one that is at the mercy of others. If the Marlins wanted to land a top notch starter they wouldn't be the only ones at the deadline that would want to, there is no leverage there.

Stokes, Encarnacion and Valdez for Vasquez and cash would be great. Best rotation in the league. Great lineup. We would be a terrific team. I dont know if the Dbacks would do that though.

You wouldnt be pissed if you played the whole seaoon busting ur ass then u sit in the World Series??

I love the hypocrisy in all of this.

The Marlins fans are the first to cry and whine about overpaying and the evil empires spending too much money and its not fair and blah blah blah.

But when you are in the position to spend upwards of 50 million and you need the help of those evil empires to suck in the money...you dont say a thing.

I hope the Red Sox, Yankees, or Astros dont help you guys out, just to spite all of the hypocrites out there.

Call me when the MArlins break the 75 million dollar payroll barrier.

Im not talking about how much you spend, I dont care how much teams spend, it makes the quality of play better if there are more good teams.

Im contending that it is hypocrisy if you small budget teams whine about the big boys, but when you need help to make your own big splash...who do you go to? The big boys?

I just want Encarnacion off the team. Call it hate if you like, but I don't think he's a productive player. All-world all-tool talent and 4.3 forty means nothing if you have the plate discipline of Randall Simon and the contact hitting abilities of Rob Deer. He's below-average at right, even worse as pinch-hitter (and you just know he'd be the first or second man off the bench). We are better suited with Aguila as our 4th outfielder, and another hitter (a cheap lefty Greg Colbrunn character would do) 'pressing' Conine.

He only has this one season on his contract, he is overpriced but if ridding him means attaching some good prospect it just might not be worth it.

What are you talking about? Why exactly are the Marlins begging for help from the Yanks or Sox to sign Delgado?

Rotoworld mention the Yankees, Sox, and Astros as teams they would look to dump salary on.

No reason to be in a hurry to trade Enc if we sign Delgado.

Let's see how Conine's shoulder performs in ST before we do anything.

That 'exploitation' is hardly comparable to that of the Sox and Yankees using their enormous spending habits to nab players from other teams.

The Yankees and the Sox CAN say no, if they aren't well-run enough to say no then that is their fault.

Small market teams CAN'T compete with high market teams on a consistent basis. They can't win out a bidding war against a high market team.

It's not even comparable.

Baseball needs a salary cap, period.

Without these crazy spend habits

1) The probability for overpaying for players drops substantially because you aren't bidding against teams that can overpay.

2) The competitive balance in baseball is much improved

Depends on the prospect. If it's a Josh Booty clone with weak wrists, I'd do it in a second. Preferably as soon as possible so you can add to the Delgado bid and/or sign a lefty bat for the bench/platoon partner for Conine.

i'm going to bust a nut the next time a person uses the terms "five-tool" or "all-tool" to describe enc's abilities.

HITTING is a tool, as is power.

if we're going to describe juan encarnacion, the word "tool" alone should suffice.
