MarlinBaseball.com's All-Time Team

Featured Replies

Since polls seem to be the hip thing to do nowadays...I thought itd be cool to do a baseball player oriented one - to make an all-time great team.

Im going to make these nomination threads for each postion (with closers getting a thread as well) and then when we amass a good number of candidates, We will vote on them with the winner getting immortalized in MarlinBaseball.com lore forever.

Any player, who has ever played, may be nominated, since this is an all-time team.

Please try not to nominate more than 2 or 3 on your own, as this gets everyone involved.

Next Up: Centerfield

Jim Edmonds

Joltin' Joe DiMaggio

Richie Ashburn

Mickey Mantle

Joe DiMaggio

Kirby Puckett

Duke Snider

Max Carey

Willie Mays

Ty Cobb

that's really who it comes down to in the end

Joe Jackson

he's a LF

I know he came up playing Center, but I'm having a hard time finding his fielding stats. They just list him as "OF."

DiMaggio has a strong argument for top honors as well.

Im opening this up for voting.

I look at Mantle, Mays, Cobb, and DiMaggio as the top 4 ever, here are my stat breakdowns:

Mantle:

Avg: .298

Hits: 2415

HRs: 536

Awards: 16 Time All-Star, 3 Tiem MVP, 1 GG, 1 Triple Crown, 7 Rings

Mays:

Avg: .302

Hits: 3283

HRs: 660

Awards: 20 Time All Star, ROY, 2 Time MVP, 12 GGs, 1 Ring

Cobb:

Avg: .366

Hits: 4189

HRs: 117

Awards: 1 MVP, 1 Triple Crown (Before All-Star Games), All Time Career batting average leader

DiMaggio:

Avg: .325

Hits: 2214

HRs: 361

Awards: 13 Time All-Star, 3 Time MVP, 9 Rings, The Hit Streak

All of these gusy have insane numbers, but I have to consider Mays as the greatest player who ever lived. He's my pick for this position.

I couldn't imagine the stats Mantle would've put up if he didn't show up to games tanked half the time. That said, I went with Willie Mays.

Willie Mays: the ultimate 5 tool player (until god came along)

STFU.

gimme cobb

the guy only one won MVP because it was invented late in his career

he was feared like no other player in the history of baseball

just unbelieveable

he had 4191 hits, not 4189

he could've hit HR's if he tried to

there's a story that goes with this, but it's very long to type

maybe later

Joe Jackson
