July 17, 200323 yr Jul. 16 - The Sun-Sentinel of South Florida indicates the Marlins aren't done upgrading their bullpen after acquiring Ugueth Urbina on Monday. The paper reports the team has had discussions with the Mets about acquiring right-handed releiver Weathers, who used to pitch for the Marlins. The paper also indicates the Mets are believed to be willing to pay off a large portion of Weathers' salary through the 2004 season, about $5 million. Doesn't hurt to have another experienced arm in the pen. Especially if most of his price tag is being paid by the mets
July 17, 200323 yr Author Hmm, does it say what we would be giving up in the rest of the article? Doesn't say but it couldn't be too much. 2 minor league pitchers probably. Doesn't look like cash since they're paying most of his salary anyway. Take some Isotopes already - thin the herd.
July 17, 200323 yr I wouldn't think that we would give up too much for him at all... We shouldn't, he's not that great.
July 17, 200323 yr I've always liked Weathers...this would be another sign of commitment, though I think our bullpen's strong enough now...and will be even stronger once Spoon gets back...
July 17, 200323 yr how about Blaine Neal for David "Stormy" Weathers(with all of his money paid for this year and next)? David Weathers RHP NYM Signed Dec 2001 - 3 years/$9.4M? 2002: $1.5M (+$1.0M signing bonus) 2003: $3.3M 2004: $3.6M -Bonuses: $100K for 70, 75, $150K 80 games. Up to $750K for games finished

You'd think with the extra digit he could put some unreal movement on the ball. I still remember having him before and I was relieved when we shipped him. I like the Weathers idea, and a big fat NO to the Fonzie idea
July 17, 200323 yr Mets want Neal, We want Weathers, this very well could happen. Who knows if the Mets still want Neal? Maybe they are satisfied with what they got from the Yanks.
July 17, 200323 yr Author Who knows if the Mets still want Neal? Maybe they are satisfied with what they got from the Yanks. They're looking at a good ol fashioned rebuilding process. Remember what thats like? They're looking for as much young pitching as they can get. They got 3 pretty good rightys from the yanks. One more wouldn't hurt if they can move Weathers, who'll be 34 this year.
July 17, 200323 yr Neal has all the stuff to eventually be a dominating closer...but we have so many guys that could do that...
July 17, 200323 yr why arent we looking for lefthanded relief help? the right handed side is fairly solid, I really have no complaints from the right side, especially once spoonybarger returns.
July 17, 200323 yr i think i saw where it says urbina is devastating to lefties..... am i right or totally wrong
July 18, 200323 yr Lefties are hitting .169 that is f***ing badass coming from a right handed pitcher you know what that means? jim thome hittin in the top of the 8th with a runner on 2 and 3rd with 2 outs and a 3-2 lead by the marlins no you wont see almanza or tejera scrappy asses. you'll see ugueth
July 18, 200323 yr Hey what about instead of getting Weathers or Alfonseca. We could get a guy we discussed earlier, Kerry Lightenberg. In my opinion he is a better pitcher than Weathers or Alfonseca.
