I posted the rumor weeks ago. I even used it in explaining why the stadium was being delayed. You just aren't on much anymore.

Here is the press release: http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...owentry&eid=689

Deal was announced yesterday late. I saw it this morning, but the firewall I was on didn't allow me to sign on. I just got home and posted it.

The deal was planned for 2005, however an agreement could not come until it was too late. Next year, FSN Florida will air ALL 150 games. No more PAX.

This finally concludes my long quest for getting the Marlins on TV in ALL of Florida. Now anyone with a Dish or FSN-affiliated cable system in Florida can watch all 150 Marlins games starting in 2006.

Thank God we won't have to deal with crappy pictures and sound on PAX anymore.

I like PAX. No commercials

It seems as if most teams agree that over-the-air broadcast networks are dead. I agree, more revenue and homes can be attained by broadcasting your team's games entirely on your Regional Sports Network.

FSN Florida is the Marlins' Regional Sports Network Partner. Here are some reasons for the Marlins making the move to put 150 games on cable and satellite via FSN Florida starting in 2006.

1) PAX may not be around in 2006.

2) FSN Florida's contract guarantees money for paying the stadium

3) FSN Florida reaches more people in Florida and the rest of Marlins Territory in Southern Alabama via Dish/DirecTV/Cable than any other channel.

4) News Corp is now backing this contract long-term. The Rockies and other teams have had similar guarantees from News Corp.

5) It allows the discontinuation of yearly OTA TV Network concerns.

6) It allows FSN and the team to program year-round because FSN will get more return on its dollar by airing all Marlins events locally.

7) ESPN airs nationwide games and FOX would air the regional OTA games anyway.

8) Over 85% of Floridians with Televisions have cable or a satellite dish.

9) FSN Florida plans on further expansion (possibly a second channel or some arrangement with Sun Sports i.e. merger)

10) This allows FSN to sell more games to advertisers and convince more cable systems to add FSN as it will have 150 games instead of only 95 for likely around a similar price as now.

The Marlins will join the Red Sox (outside of the Boston DMA via NESN), Reds (all of Reds TV Area via FSN Ohio), Indians (all of Indians TV Area via FSN Ohio), Brewers (all of Brewers TV Area via FSN North), Twins (outside of Minneapolis DMA via FSN North), Pirates (all of Pirates TV Area via FSN Pittsburgh), and Padres (all of Padres TV Area via Channel 4 San Diego) as teams that air all games via Regional Sports Network only.

The Blue Jays, Nationals, Astros, Tigers, Rockies, Orioles, Braves and Diamondbacks are all also considering dropping Over-The-Air Broadcasts soon.

Starting with 2006: A MINIMUM OF 150 MARLINS GAMES WILL BE AVAILABLE NATIONWIDE VIA MLB EXTRA INNINGS AND PAX

Another bunch of reasons for this move. :cool

This is really good news for out of state Marlins fans like myself, the deal will mean that all Marlins games will be available on MLB extra innings...no more blacked-out PAX games :)

well i'm not sure how excited i am. i am lifelong marlins fan from fort lauderdale and went to games all the time until i went to college. i go to school in orlando and do not have fox sports net florida on my brighthouse network cable plan. i was also disappointed to find out with MLBTV that i couldn't receive marlins games on it becacuse FSN Florida had exclusive broadcast rights in the state. maybe someone can give me some info on this. thanks - matt

Bright House in Central Florida does not have an agreement to carry FSN Florida. You can remedy this by getting either Dish Network or DirecTV. FSN Florida is the local RSN included with most packages.

The amount seems rather low for a market area of Miami's size, but I guess South Florida isn't as saturated with cable and satellite TV as some other markets.

It's saturated, but the deal seems undervalued because FSN can only measure the 3 million homes in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market for Marlins games. Palm Beach-Fort Pierce has around 1 million, Orlando-Melbourne-Daytona Beach has around 2 million, Fort Myers-Naples has around 550,000, and Jacksonville has around 1 million. That is the weakness of cable networks.

THis is great news for me, I just wish it was starting this year and not in 2006. I still won't be able to see games on PAX.

Agreed, I am in the same boat. But it will be nice knowing that with a Dish I can see 150 games a year (at least...not counting ESPN, FOX, TBS, and WGN) anywhere in Florida and Southern Alabama.

I give this deal :thumbup :thumbup
