March 15, 200521 yr Addition by subtraction for the Tigers... I'm just worried he may wind up with the Giants. There were rumors we were going to trade one of our top young pitchers for him, but thankfully Sabean isn't that stupid.

March 15, 200521 yr Man, we should have discussed this thread on Tigerstalk.com, oh well. 711170 Its not too late...

There were rumors we were going to trade one of our top young pitchers for him, but thankfully Sabean isn't that stupid. 711163 Why didnt Dombrowski trade him, get some talent, you tell me no one at all wanted Sanchez for minimal prospects, not even maybe a Tike Redman Alex Sanchez starte up, instead nothing...

I heard the Tigers wouldn't have him. 711167 who's the guy most responsible for the Yankees dynasty? Who's responsible for the five key players to the dynasty (Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Pettitte, and Posada) being on the team? Not to mention all these trades like Vogelsong for Schmidt, Watson for Snow, Williams for Kent, etc.

It's in the ESPN article. Sanchez wasn't a hot commodity, he has too much of a downside.

Maybe the Tigers released him before the hearing so they wouldn't have to pay him as much. Does anyone know if there is something in the rules where, if you don't not tender an arbitration eligible player but release him before the hearing, it states how much you owe them?
March 15, 200521 yr Who's gonna lead off for them? 711119 good ole Bobby Higginson has been pretty successful in the leadoff spot in the past. 711125 too bad Higgy vows not to walk this year

He did say he was going to be a free swinging crazyman this year.

Sanchez had a $1.35 million, one-year contract that was not guaranteed. By releasing him before Friday, the Tigers owe 30 days' termination pay, $221,311, instead of 45 days' termination pay, $331.967. That's really all I can tell ya.

And they need to be. Senior citizens are very delicate.
March 15, 200521 yr Author Maybe a trade for a CF and Urbina, Cameron?? 711188 A simple answer to that... That's according to Jayson Stark, but there is a smell of a move going to be made, and Cameron to the Tigers has been going on for like 3 months now. I don't know what to think of that move anymore.
March 15, 200521 yr Maybe something you can expect with the Mets is a three team trade, including is the Mets getting a reliever, the team giving up the reliever (Detroit maybe) receives Camron, and trades for a corner outfielder form a team with extra (Oakland, TB, FLA, CIN, ect. and send the Corner OF to NY to take Camrons spot, and send Prospects to the team giving up the outfielder... I dont know if im losing some of you on that...

Im not saying in exchange including Camron and Byrnes wont happen, just not straight up...
March 15, 200521 yr And for any minimal speculation of Granderson... Tigers optioned OF Curtis Granderson, RHP Kenny Baugh, RHP Mark Woodyard, 2B Ryan Raburn, 1B-C Chris Shelton and OF Byron Gettis to Triple-A Toledo; RHP Preston Larrison to Double-A Erie and RHP Justin Verlander to Single-A Lakeland. The Tigers don't want to be tempted to keep Granderson, so they're sending him down. With a clearer path to the majors, he's a better option in AL-only leagues this year. He should be worth a few dollars before season's end. The other player here capable of helping fantasy teams this year is Shelton. Injuries may open up the DH job for him later on.
March 16, 200521 yr They better make a move to get another outfielder, because trusting Maggs health would be beyond stupid. I know everybody thinks i'm a Maggs hater or whatever, but this guy is going to get hurt again.
March 16, 200521 yr Hit a HR his first game back.... 711276 I'm aware, 1 spring training at bat isn't going to change my stance though. Mind you, I'm aware I may end up being very wrong, but that knee injury was just a disaster, and even if he stays healthy all year, trusting him to stay healthy without much help behind him is just stupid, which is why them releasing a good OF like Sanchez confuses me.
March 16, 200521 yr The thing is...he wasnt good. His defense was putrid for as much speed as he has and he tailed off considerably after the all-star break. Teams started to figure him out and thats why he was sitting on the bench near the end of the season.
