Tigers Release Alex Sanchez

Tigers Release Sanchez

So ends that experiment...he never drew walks, he always got caught stealing, and was a horrible centerfielder. Not the kind of guy the Tigers need sticking around. Oh, and he slid into first way too much.

THey released him because as a leadoff man only walked 7 times last year. He also led all CF's in errors last year. His stolen base percentage is atrocious. There's your reason right there.

Bowden: stay away

Good point...Endy Chavez hasn't been producing much this spring. I think Bowden is smart enough not to go after Sanchez, but you never know. Sanchez is basically the same as Chavez, or at least how Chavez has been doing in spring training...no walks, no steals...

Somebody is gonna pick him up and get a major steal.

Agree, IF you told me two years ago that Detroit would release a reletively young guy who hits .320 because he plays sloppy D in a a league with a Dh i wouldnt believe you. The guys got awsome speed, SB might come with expierince, along with the patience...

I'd be interested in the Sox going after him if we didn't already have Scotty Pods

Sanchez is a stud for me on MVP

yea.. i know that has nothing to do with this.

As someone who doesn't follow the Tigers, this seems to have come out of no where. No hints, rumours, etc. Who will play center now for Detroit?

Mike Cameron is going to be traded to Detroit for Ugeth Urbina IMO.

I would have done that earlier in spring, but the way Heath Bell, Roberto Hernandez, and Bartolome Fortunato have been pitching and the fact that Scott Strickland is on his way back makes think we're going to stick with the pen as is outside of a situational lefty.

I think Mike Cameron also has a partial NTC including Detroit. I may be wrong though.

Are you guys serious? You really think that Alex Sanchez would be a steal?

Led all CF's in errors last year.

Walked 7 times all last year at the leadoff spot. That .322 avg only helped him get a .335 OBP

59% stolen base percentage for a guy who is supposed to be fast.

Take him. He's all yours.

And CF is a question mark now...but Craig Monroe and Nook Logan can share the job for the time being until either (a) a move is made or (b) Granderson is deemed ready.

Monroe really turned it on after the break last year. He has the ability to be a starter and produce at the plate, but I don't know if his defense is good enough to perform in the huge outfield at Comerica.

Monroe's defense in right wasn't that spectacular so I don't think he'd be a good fit for CF either. Does he even have any CF experience?

A tiny bit of CF experience.

Hasn't played this spring.

Who's gonna lead off for them?

711119[/snapback]

That's a whole other story. Right now, Omar Infante is a solid leadoff guy, but he is having shoulder problems that may delay the beginning of his season. If that happens, and there are no moves made, Nook Logan can play CF and leadoff. If Logan isn't in, then good ole Bobby Higginson has been pretty successful in the leadoff spot in the past.

Vinas done. He walks with a permanent limp.

Infante is the 2b of the future and potential all star.

I meen the Vina Detroit thought they were getting when they signed him before last year, Detroit put him on the 60 day today instead of releasing him... I don't know what that means. Ive heard Infante in the same sentences as Marcus Giles lately...
