JUPITER ? Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon said one reason the team is putting off final roster decisions is that there is always a chance of a trade or injury during the final week of camp.

 

"A lot of those will come down to the wire," McKeon said. "Maybe (general manager) Admin (Beinfest) will go out and make a deal. Who knows. You've got your idea right now, but things can change very easily the last week. I don't look for a lot of that stuff. But that's always a possibility."

 

McKeon said he expects other clubs to make moves when they pare their rosters this week.

 

"No question you're going to see some movement this week," McKeon said. "And they'll be a few guys out there who can help different clubs."

 

FINAL TUNING: McKeon said this last week he will play his regulars most of the time and give them a chance to make final adjustments before the season begins on April 5.

 

"Now you've got to start picking it up," he said. "You're down to the wire now, you're getting there close."

At issue is the $8.8 million owed to Higginson this year. The Tigers are believed to be willing to pick up the bulk with the Marlins paying around $500,000. Higginson bats left. If the Marlins get him, Lenny Harris, the team's other left-handed bench player, might not make the team.

Do you think it's for Higginson? I doubt it's for Urbina which I know ESPN insider says the Marlins are among the interested, but Detroit will ask for the house I'm sure for Urbina.

Tampa is like 3 hours away, from up here dewd. The Panthers are hella far. I went to like 5 games last year down to Tampa with a friend. Nice arena, no where near as nice as the ODC but meh. Good team.

The Orioles likely will trade LHP Matt Riley, perhaps to the Rangers, and they're also open to moving LH reliever John Parrish and RH reliever Jorge Julio.

 

Parrish would be a good fit for any of several teams that need left-handed relief help ? the Marlins and Mets both fit that description. ...

No I think it is okay. Close means that the sides have talked and okay with the parameters. For it to be imminent I would think all the prinicpal names and figures would have to be out on the table and they aren't yet.
