April 13, 200521 yr pitchers are going out nad doing their thing tho...treanor caught today...its more of the pitcher being consistent but yes the catchers being on the same page calling the game is also a huge part. we need a catcher appreciation thread and an al leiter appreciation thread.

April 13, 200521 yr At this point in the season it's inconceivable to me how anyone can find fault with the job Mark Wiley has done. Our starters are doing so well it's almost scary and the relief corps has done very well too. Ask the Braves about their pen, which has given up (if I remember what the Atlanta broadcasters said today) have given up 16 runs in the last four games. And to repeat myself, something I said in today's game thread, anyone who thinks Matt Treanor sucks, stinks or isn't a major leaguer ought to take a trip to Jiffy Lube and see if the guys in the pit can provide some lubrication advise regarding getting your head out of your ass. This is the second consecutive great game he's called (not to mention timely hitting) and he's proven beyond a doubt he belongs.

In addition, there is no reason to keep him around since he didn't communicate well with AJ or Beckett. The skip is Jack and he wants Wiley. He should make the calls on his own staff. Case closed

Josh said something in an interview about being very comfortable with him, it was just like back in the minors. :thumbup
April 14, 200521 yr Clearly Wiley has more to work with this year than last. The young studs Beckett, AJ and Willis have matured. Leiter is a wealth of experience and Valdez (once he gets going) will be way better than Oliver....and Moehler is very experienced as long relief/6th starter. The bullpen is much more experienced and not a group of AAAA pitchers. Even Rosenthal would look like a genius under these circumstances....although it does appear Wiley has established good rapport with the entire staff.
April 14, 200521 yr Although I give credit for Mark Wiley for helping the Marlins have a great launch this season there are also other factors that have contributed to this pitching burst. As PB Marlin said, AJ and Beckett, (hopefully) have matured and aren't giving in to the Penny Syndrome. Also, Dontrelle Willis is one year older. Improvement is DEMANDED from him and it looks like he is living up to all the hype. It's funny how much ESPN loves this guy. Long Live Al Leiter!
