They are rivals. For some reason, when one team does well the other is either rebuilding or struggling. But anyone who has followed either team knows how competitive it is when they actually compete and it matters.

 

Anyone remember that awesome playoff series in 1997? The Heat stomped the Magic in the first two games and thought it was all done. Then Penny Hardaway was reborn along with Nick Anderson and the rise of Darrell Armstrong. The Magic took two games in Orlando easily and then the Heat barely escaped in Miami putting the Magic away at the very end. Had the NBA opening round been a 7 game series, Im confident the Magic would have won.

 

Of course the Heat went on to barely escape the next round too because half the Knicks team was suspended for the last few games via that infamous fight.
