Yankees Shakup

I think they are panicking a bit early but Robinson Cano was called up and will be the new 2b with Tony Womack taking over in LF while Hideki Matsui is the new CF. Bernie Williams has been relegated to DH duties with Giambi and Sierra

In the few games I've watched Williams, he has looked HORRIBLE on the field.

Youth movement for the Yanks. Sign of the Apocalypse!

Or the auditioning of talent for Roger Clemens?

No way the yanks ever have a young player start a position for too long. Cano will be shipped elsewhere by July for even more pitching. :thumbdown

Yanks are hoping Cano plays well enough that he can be sent elsewhere, but there's no way this is an audition for Clemens, the Astros' top prospect is an 2B, and he's been blocked by Biggio/Kent for 2 years. No way do they bite on Cano...

Gammons made a real good case today on way Clemens might not be traded.

- $22,000,000

- Yankees have noone to trade

- Clemens' son Kobe will begin summer league ball this year.

- Astros need someone to put asses in the seats.

Gammons also mentioned Baseball Prospectus ranks the Yankees' defense last in the ML.

22 million is how much they charge for cotton candy at Yankee stadium. Money is nothing.

They have said for years the Yanks have noone to trade, yet, they get deals done.

Clemens doesnt wanna end his career in 3rd place.

Astros will take cash and a few young players for 2 months with bad attendance.

Yeah, that's why they didn't sign Beltran.

But Clemens wants to help his son in the Summer League ball.

Sorry this ain't gonna happen.

Clemens will block a deal to the Yanks, especially when he can't solve the Yanks problems

isnt it in Clemens contract that allows him to be traded to the Yanks if the Astros are out of it and the Yanks are in it?

OK, I wasn't aware of that. I thought it was a full no-trade clause

The way I remember it was that someone (I think Stark) said that there was language in the contract that the Astros would make a good faith attempt to trade Clemens to the Yankees in the event that the Astros are out of it come July. But then, I'm pretty sure that the Astros came out and flat out denied that they put that in there.

I think the more telling fact is that the agent got a $3 million bonus for Clemens in the event of a trade...they (the Clemens camp) sure wanted to make sure that they were in a no-lose situation for the rest of the season, because if a team is going to pay $3 million to simply acquire the guy, they better be damn sure they're going to the playoffs.

They didnt sign Beltran because it was in their best judgement that they would be overpaying for offense that they didnt need whereas their biggest need was in the rotation.

If it wasn't about the money, the Yanks would have signed Beltran.

Their team is finally getting hit with the reprecussions of trading away all of their prospects.

They still have the greatest bargaining chip in their possesion:

The ability to eat contracts, and send money.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading in a few places that they're done taking on bad contracts. They have also reached their "limit," when you consider that the decision to sign Johnson eliminated them from the Beltran derby because Steinbrenner said that he'd just be paying too much in the luxury tax.

They may find some team that would value Giambi (pretty much fully paid) enough to give them something meaningful that they could turn into some other piece, but teams aren't going to just give them players, and everyone they've targeted (Clemens) won't be moved for just an eaten contrace and a "B" prospect.

Their best bet may be taking someone else's headache (Wood), but unless they make some massive blockbuster, I just don't see how the Yankees are going to pry Clemens out of Houston.

kerry wood in a yankees uniform is a disaster waiting to happen

he thinks he's udner pressure with the cubs now...

imagine if he got traded

o well. Not happenning anyways.

Well, yeah, that's why it's fun to speculate...

Lets not worry...... Giambi is going to bust out the lumber soon..... :whistle

If by lumber you mean his Louisville GrowthHormone.

So is this is it for the Yankees? Are they missing the playoffs?

I think George is ready to push the panic button
