This three way trade would be perfect for us. BUT, I think if we could some how get Bo Hart, I think it would secure 2B for us for years. We could always add Castillo to this 3 way deal, send him to the Cards, and have them give us Hart and another top level prospect. I think that deal would be noting but smart. It's something that focuses on winning for now and the future.

I like that idea a lot Wild Card. We get Drew and Hart, deal Castillo and some prospects - also we save a lot of money which we can use to re-sign Lowell (by losing Castillo). But Drew's contract may put us back at square one. I do like Hart's ability, I dont know how good he will be in the long run, but he seems like a very solid player. Seems we have a lot of options...

This three wa deal was reported by the Sentinal, where as there was a two way deal that would send Drew and Hart to the Marlins for Castillo and pitching.

I thought about that deal and nixed it inj my head. BUT, if we could just add Castillo to THIS deal, not only would we get Drew, but Hart (our second baseman for the next 6 years) and another top-level prospect. Hart is a pure no. 2 hitter, and would fit beautifuly behind Pierre, Drew would be put in the 6 or 7 spot, plus we get a prospect!

I don't know 'bout you guys, but the deal I just cooked up sound mighty tasty...

As a Cardinal fan... I don't like either deal. I'd rather keep Drew if Suppan is the best that we can get for him. As for the Castillo deal... the Cards can't afford him, and would be better off keeping a cheaper Hart. The Cards need Starting Pitching, and not an upgrade at 2B.

The Cards can never afford it every year... Translation: We have money stashed in a safe below the stadium for our annual mid-season trade.

Suppan is pitching beautifully for Pitt, and not just speaking on yesterdays oerformance when he mowed down, oh yea, the Cardinals. I would welcome him with open arms.

Suppan is pretty good right now. He is 10-7 with a low 3 ERA on a not-very-good Pirates team.

Drew is expendable, makes some serious cash, and has only 203 ABs which means he hasnt been healthy for you all year really. So, you dont really need his bat, and with Morris going down for a while, you all need starting pitching.

But truthfully, I think the Cards should be sellers at this point, not buyers UNLESS they improve their starting rotation. Also, they havent made any significant strides to show they are contenders at this point. You have plenty of hitting. Getting Castillo in place of Hart would only legitimatize your hitting - you wouldnt have to rely on a rookie. Suppan would bring a solid arm for the stretch - which you need pitching more than hitting in order to win.

I do think the Marlins would be getting one hell of deal if this goes through, and I can see why you Cards fans wouldnt be totally happy. But Suppan and Castillo would help your team out a lot. It would be nice to see that former-Marlin combo up the middle too...Renteria and Castillo.

I have nothing against Suppan, and I would love to see the Cards aquire him, but I think that Drew is too much to give up for him. As for Castillo, I would love to see him as a Cardinal, but the Cards should spend all of their available cash on pitching, and not on offense unless we get a replacement for Drew in the deal. I guess the reason I dislike this deal is because there have been rumors that the Cards could get Escobar, Ponson, and Garcia for Drew. I would probably prefer any those guys over Suppan. Once again, I'd love to get Suppan for Prospects, but not straight up for Drew.

I agree that they need to improve their starting pitching, but that's what this trade would do. The Cards are only 3 games out in the NL Central.

Statistically, the only one of those three pitchers that is better than Suppan is Escobar, and he most likely isn't going anywhere. I agree that offense isn't the way you guys should be heading adding Castillo. But tey obvously know they have enough offense that they can trade Drew for pitching and atill be well off. Suppan could very well be the best and most available pitcher ont he market...

Just in case anyone was wondering check out these stats for Drew:

RISP: .392 (20-51)

RISP, 2 outs: .450 (9-20)

Close and late: .378 (14-37)

when it matters, he is a badass...

but will he be healthy enough when it really matters?

He's like a Cabrera clone! He just sucks up RBI...

what I'd heard is that the Jays were willing to deal Escobar for Drew but the Cards wouldn't do it...

The Cards HAVE to get a pitcher or they're out of it. I don't think there's much doubt there.

There has been a rumor that Escobar would head to St. Louis in a 3 way deal with Oakland for Drew. I like Escobar and Suppan both, but I'd prefer Ponson and Garcia. There is also a rumor that the Cards would trade Drew for Garcia and Winn. The Cards offense will be fine without Drew, but I still think he's worth more than a few months rental of Suppan.

As long as he's back and 100% as of now, why wouldn't he be?

Don't count on it. I like Drew a lot. He's possibly the fastest player on our team, and could be one of the best hitters on the team. I'm just starting to doubt that he will be able to stay healthy.

Thye Mariners would never trade, NEVER trade Garcia AND Winn just for Drew. That's crazy talk.

Ponson is headed for Atlanta if anywhere, Garcia could be gone, but check his stats and you might not want him anymore. Escobar is probably staying in Toronto. Really, I think your best and most likely answer is Suppan.

Look, we need to get rid of Castillo now, for two players that will have an impact for some time. Bo Hart is showing some amazing stuff in St. Louis, who knows how good he can be. I've always liked J.D. Drew, and I know that he can be a big-time threat as a contact and power hitter. We aren't going to be able to keep Castillo when he goes up for arbitration this fall. I don't see it happening. Plus, I don't believe that we need two speed players at the top of the lineup. In addition, Castillo has not been himself that much lately, with his speed numbers down, and his average below his norm. I say we do that trade.

I know what Garcia's stats look like, but Garcia has done very well in the past, and won't be a FA for another year. He is a gamble, and his contract scares me a little.

You're a horrible GM...

Castillo isn't arby eligible... He's a regular FA...

And Castillo's average is below the norm? Sorry, but seeing that he's batting like . 315, what's his normal evactly?

Drew is a speed player, but I don't know where he would bat in the Marlins line-up. The Cards like him as their #2 hitter when healthy.
