July 29, 200322 yr Drew is a speed player, but I don't know where he would bat in the Marlins line-up. The Cards like him as their #2 hitter. He'd probably bat 6-7... Everyone in the Marlinsline-up but Lowell/Gonzalez have speed, so that's no biggy. Unless Castillo is in the trade, nobody is knocking him from the 2 hole.

Drew would be a good fit for the Marlins. Larussa doesn't give him much of a chance to use his speed.
July 29, 200322 yr You're a horrible GM... Castillo isn't arby eligible... He's a regular FA... And Castillo's average is below the norm? Sorry, but seeing that he's batting like . 315, what's his normal evactly? OK, fine, then the situation is even worse. Castillo is not stealing nearly as many bases as he did last year, and he was hitting about 10 points higher by now. And lastly, I haven't seen a team win World Series with two leadoff hitters at the top of the lineup. We just don't need Pierre AND Castillo, and I believe that Pierre is much more valuable right now. Oh, and you suck. :thumbdown

Castillo is no longer a leadoff guy but a very solid #2

Pierre's OBP is . 350+, and Castillo's is . 380+. That combo at the top is amazing, especilly with Pudge batting behind them.

This isn't the Dead Ball Era, all of the good teams in baseball now need to have power over speed in the middle of the lineup, as well as good pitching. And again, we're going to lose Castillo for nothing if we don't trade him now. Can't argue that. I think getting Hart and Drew would be great.

All the good teams have power over speed in the middle, where we have both. We also have very good pitching. So, we're not a good team, but a great team. And again, we're going to lose Castillo for nothing if we don't trade him now. Can't argue that. I think getting Hart and Drew would be great. I agree 100%. In fact, I thought I was the only one defending acquiring Hart and a top prospect at the expense of Castillo.

It makes sense but the same logic I use for trading Derreck for Conine.Your respond was that the trade was downgrade.I have to disagree about trading castillo and starting pitcher.I like Mike Bernardino trade scenerio alot better.
July 29, 200322 yr just what this team needs.... another PR hit(in trading Castillo) It would be partof a deal in which we trade prospects to the Pirates, get JD Drew, and trade the Castillo to the Cards for a top level prospect and the rookie sensation Bo Hart. That's how the press will view this trade.
July 29, 200322 yr If this deal happens Drew will probably bat 5th in the lineup and everyone else moves down one spot. Cabs will go down which is the part I dont like.

July 29, 200322 yr I rather get Guillen maybe the new GM will lower his price and add Heredia to the deal. Either way what I really want is a good lefty for the pen.

Except Derrek Lee is a power bat that we need to keep, where Castillo is a lead-off type hitter that is expendable. Not only that, but Hart would be here for 5 some odd years, compared to Conine who'd be here 1 1/2.
July 29, 200322 yr castillo is much more expendable than lee, this is true, but castillo is the man, and hart is a definite downgrade.....leave this team the way it is, bring sullivan and we done........

July 29, 200322 yr my hunch: JD Drew will be in a Cards uni for the rest of the year I agree... the Cards GM has already stated that he wouldn't trade Drew unless he was blown away with an offer. None of the names mentioned would blow anybody away.
July 29, 200322 yr I mentioned awhile ago that JD Drew would be a solid acquisition. When he's in the lineup, he's an extremely dangerous hitter with that rare combo of power and speed. He'd provide that lefty pop that's sorely missing from the middle of our order. The knock on him is that he's always injured, but he's not injured now and is putting up solid numbers. Of course, if I brought him here, with the way Cabrera is hitting, I would have Drew playing right field instead of left field, perhaps in a platoon with Enc. But somehow I get the feeling Juan wouldn't take too kindly to such a move. Bo Hart, on the other hand, is a flash-in-the-pan. He was not considered to be a good prospect in the Cards farm system, and he was putting up mediocre numbers at AAA before being called up. Then he had a flukey first few weeks where he hit over .400 or somethin, and a lot of people jumped on the Bo Hart bandwagon. Since then, he seems to be showing his true ability, batting .257 in the month of July with a horrendous .635 OPS. My guess is that, two seasons from now, he'll be a utility player for some team or end up back in the minors.
July 29, 200322 yr Bo Hart is the next Super Joe McEwing I'm not sure if you meant this in a positive or negative light. Seeing as that McEwing has been a reserve for the last 4 seasons now, I'm guessing you also aren't too high on Hart. Actually, the similarities between the two are pretty eerie (not regarded as top prospects, came up around the same age, was hot for a short period, etc.)
July 29, 200322 yr i meant that Bo Hart is just a flash in the pan(like you said), and that he is a backup for life
