What happened to Mota?

Featured Replies

He just gave McKeon some backtalk too, & Jack just let him have it in the dugout.

Not a good idea Mota....

did Jack slap him or not?

What happened to Mota? He just assured himself a spot in middle relief and made sure Todd Jones was going to remain closer :plain.

He might have assured himself a spot on the bench or on another team with the back talk to Jack.

That crossed my mind too. Think we try to move Mota?

I wouldnt mind, Dime would make a good replacement of Leiter.

I think Mota did okay tonight. A little wild with his fastball, and when that goes his other stuff isn't good enough to fool people for long. Jamey Carroll created the run in the 7th. Worked the walk, got to 2B so quick on a groundout that a DP wasn't possible and scored on a single to Pierre and his noodle arm. In the 8th, Mota got a little too clever and threw two consecutive change-ups to Church. Church lined the second one to rightfield where Enc keeps it to a double if he gives a damn. But he doesn't and Church is 90 feet away with 0 out. A misplaced fastball into Baerga's side and a double play ball if the infield is at normal depth scores the run.

Apparently Mota wasn't feeling great yesterday or the day before and tossed some bullpen work on the side. Tonight's poor performance may have been the result of a recent injury, or it could have been to get him back in game shape. How often does Jack normally use Mota, Jones or anyone other than the bottom 3/4 of the pen when trailing?

Mota is close to being history. With the team playing as poorly as they are, you dont give the manager back talk.

If all we are looking for is a set up man for Jones, then let's trade Mota and sign Graves. Graves is a true pro, wants to play in Miami, and hasn't ever given anyone the first bit of trouble.

Mota will come around. He needs some more time to get back into form.

It does look like the team is having internal problems though.

I agree. But, I'm still concerned we mismanage our Bull-Pen.

Who's in charge? Maybe Leiter should be. (I don't care what his salary is... you have to cut your losses... can't trade him... get some use from him.)

Bull-Pen is Jack's weakest competency link (for years.)

I would agree that Jack makes very questionable bullpen moves, and it costs us games. The bright side is we have several good options for Jack this year, so whatever move he makes it has a good chance of working out.

Management will agree with Mota. Aside from being the player, Mota isn't the first player to complain about Jack's belittling behavior and the club is looking for a spark.

What would make Graves a good setup man? Because he got guys out with the bass empty and the lead (and not too well at that either)? Because he drinks milk? Because he's one of Jack's guys? Screw that.

And while Jack is often times using lesser pieces in the toughest situations and rarely playing to a pitcher's strength, he was commended for his bullpen work just a few years back and has a solid reputation around the league.

While I don't agree with rferry's view that the FO would side with Guillermo in this case, maybe Mota is actually right in talking back to Jack. Sorry to say, the man obviously doesn't have control of his troops right now. They aren't hustling in the least, he's got his setup man angry at him publicly and who knows who else privately, he even held a private meeting and the club still came out and took a dump on the game.

Last season we canned a coach because he lost the respect of the players he was supposed to be helping. It looks like Jack has fallen into the same trap.

It would have been nice to see Mota come into the game in the 8th instead of Riedling.

Goes to show that Jack has lost some confidence in him....and it may have cost us the game today.

damn, mota is just slippin. its sad

Mota will pull it together. He has proven he can be an excellent reliever and is still coming into his prime. He'll turn it around, no doubt.

Major League players have a lot of pride.....he probably was embarrassed by McKeon publicly chewing him out.
