Comparing Marlins rotation to Cubs

Featured Replies

-Prior and Beckett both just have wicked stuff. Prior dominated the 2003 season, Beckett dominated the 2nd half of 2003 and the playoffs... Both keep suffering injuries that shouldn't classify them as "injury prone", where as they are running into runners, getting blisters, line drives, etc.

-Wood and Burnett are just hard throwing country boys who both have had arm troubles. One has a 20 SO game, the other has a no-hitter. Both are rednecks. Each throws in the upper 90's and each have people who say they have bad mechanics.

-Then you have Leiter and Maddux. Two pitchers who aren't the same pitchers they used to be (Leiter more than Maddux) and both pitchers who came back to where they played earlier in their career and had success.

-DTrain and Zambrano.. Both have just a ton of energy and both can hit the ball damn well. Two very talented young pitchers with fiery attitudes.

-And then you have Moehler and Rusch. Two guys who have reinvented themselves with the Marlins and Cubs. Moehler fell off the baseball map after having a few good years with Detroit, had a few surgeries on his elbow and was in AA last year. Rusch totally reinvented himself with the Cubs and paid his dues, like Moehler, to get back to an MLB rotation. Both are having great years.

Anyway, I always thought the similarities between the two staffs was pretty interesting.

Very good comparision, now the Marlins lineup needs to be like the Cubs and realize that they can hit.

The two staffs are similiar, but the Cubs are a lot better, except for Dontrelle, who has pwned everyone this year.

That was my reaction too, but I figured it would somehow have no credibility if I posted it since I'm a White Sox fan.

Marlins Team ERA - 3.70

Cubs Team ERA - 3.81

Its not that different or laughable...The Fish are better right now and have the better ace so they would get the nod for now....

I have to disagree, since their #5 guy is pitching a lot (and I mean a lot) better than our #5.

So they have a better balanced rotation.

Well let's look pitcher by pitcher...

#1 Dontrelle Willis VS. #1 Carlos Zambrano

10-2, 2.13, 66 K's | 4-3, 3.19, 83 K's

Edge: 'Trelle

#2 Josh Beckett VS. #2 Glendon Rusch

7-4, 3.13, 78 K's | 5-1, 2.07, 42 K's

Edge: Rusch

#3 A.J Burnett VS. #3 Greg Maddux

3-4, 3.09, 80 K's | 5-3, 4.11, 50 K's

Edge: Burnett

#4 Brian Moehler VS. John Koronka

2-4, 2.90, 40 K's | 1-1, 5.73, 9 K's

Edge: Moehler

#5 Al Leiter VS. #5 Sergio Mitre

2-6, 6.75, 36 K's | 1-1, 4.88, 12 K's

Edge: Mitre

For right now, the Fish IMO have a better starting 5 as their top 4 is very good. Even with the gaping hole of Leiter, the Cubs counter with two unproven players and an average Greg Maddux.

Now a healthy Cubs rotation of Zambrano, Prior, Rusch, Wood, and Maddux is scary good.

not to mention the Marlins rotation hasn't been hit by injuries as bad as the Cubs rotation, plus the Marlins pitchers don't have Dusty Baker to screw them up

If Dusy could screw Rusch into a 2.01 ERA and keep a team battling with injuries to the 3rd best ERA in the NL....hes doing something right.

Shut up you bitter ex-Dusty fan if he was still managing San Fran you'd be all over him.
