Posted June 20, 200519 yr what are the players or pieces that we have to trade for either Bullpen help, 5th starter or another hitter. Trading Pieces............. Encarnacion Willingham Stokes MAYBE....... Mota? Pierre? Olsen or hermida? do u guys think they would trade either of them what other minor league pitchers can we trade or minor league players can we trade in a package deal....... how is randy messenger doing? WHAT DO U GUYS THINK WOULD BE A GOOD PACKAGE TO TRADE FOR SOME HELP IN REALISTIC TRADES.
June 20, 200519 yr I think the only players we should trade now are Encarnacion and Mota, it is obvious none of them want to be here in Florida. Maybe some prospects depending on who and what we trade for. Don't trade Pierre cause even though he's not hitting on all cylinders he will come around, look at today...at start or just one good day followed by many bad?
June 20, 200519 yr There are many pieces available to trade, including minor league prospects, bench players, underperforming starters and productive starters (see last year's LA trade). They may not all fetch a player worth letting them go for though.
June 20, 200519 yr All I know is if we trade Hermida then I will be PISSED. Other than that, we need a trade. Juan probably won't get us much. Willingham and Olsen maybe our best pieces. I still think that the front office is thinking of trading AJ and Lowell if we got the right deal.
June 20, 200519 yr The next six games will help determine how the FO approaches the upcoming trade deadline. If the team returns to South Florida four or more games above .500 (which would mean winning two more than we lose of the next six), thus having an overall successful roadtrip, then I doubt you'll see much interest in making a blockbuster (read trading one of our "star" players) move. If on the otherhand if we return sporting a .500 record for the trip, or worse, big changes may be at hand. While I remain not in the "trade Enc" camp I can see where he is a likely trade candidate as is Willingham, Mota and potentially others. I find it difficult to believe AJ will be traded if we're in a competitive position, especially with Beckett and Leiter iffy for their respective reasons. I can't imagine Dillon stays with the club much longer without being given a chance to contribute more. That roster spot needs to be made more productive. And as much I like the Joe Dillon story, there's no trade value there. Harris continues to do his thing and such will remain for the rest of the year. Perhaps Damion Easley (getting on my flack jacket) would pique the interest so some GM, but at what price to the bench? If trading Easley meant acquiring a missing component, I'd be for it. At this point, having heard nothing to the contrary, I think it's safe to conclude Tim Spooneybarger won't be contributing this season. Let's hope Alfonseca can. So in the end, unless you want to drop a bomb on the team and blow it up, it looks like Damion, Enc, Willingham and perhaps Olsen are our four best pieces of tradebait. The rest of our minor leaguers, if used, will be add-ins on trades as window dressing.
June 20, 200519 yr Off of the big league roster I would love to trade Encarnacion or Mota, but who'll be crazy enough to pick them up or worse what will the Marlins receive in exchange for them. In the minors I would say the most value could be gotten for Willingham or Stokes. Not that I want to see Hammer traded but as long as Jack is the skipper he won't play many kids. Messenger, Johnson and maybe Resop could fetch something. Any trade involving either Olsen or Hermida would be foolish at this time as they have to much value for the future.
June 20, 200519 yr you guys got to forget about Stokes... his value has got to be dropping like a sack of bricks
June 20, 200519 yr We absolutely have to trade Encarnacion after that Day trade fell through. We all know he's the kind of player who would take something like that personally, and the front office has to know that the Day rumor has and will continue to impact his level of play as well as his demeanor in the clubhouse. he's gonna be gone as soon as we can find someone who will send us back a pitcher.
June 20, 200519 yr you guys got to forget about Stokes... his value has got to be dropping like a sack of bricks 818143 Marlins should have traded him in the offseason. I don't expect to get much for him, but they should try to get whatever they can now. 818213 Id rather us hold on to him and see if he can get that value back up.... dont need to move him at his low point
June 20, 200519 yr Why would anyone give up a solid SP for Enc? I can see a good reliever for Enc but not a SP of any value.

Mota, Encarnacion, Willingham, Stokes, and MAYBE Olsen are our best pieces. I would never count out trading Pierre or Lowell to fire up the club but Iwould HATE to do it.
