Governor Schwarzenegger's predecessor, Democrat Gray Davis, was elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002, but was removed from office in the historic 2003 recall election. Davis, like Schwarzenegger, enjoyed very favorable ratings during the early part of his tenure. For example, in early 2000 62% approved of Davis' job performance and 20% disapproved. However, in subsequent years voters began to lose support for Davis and his ratings declined precipitously. In September 2002, about one year before he was voted out of office, just 39% approved of the job that Davis was doing and 49% disapproved - an appraisal similar to one Schwarzenegger now receives. June 22, 200521 yr I never liked Gray Davis, and I supported Arnold. However, I'm surprised at his drop in approval rating. It's possible that since California is a Democratic state, they have turned against Arnold because of his connections to Bush.

Arnold's approval rating is dropping b/c he called for three initiatives which have been torn to shreds by local media. I dont remmeber all of tem, but i know one of them was to make it harder for public school teachers to become tenured, so that bad teachers are held accountable. The other was a tax issue that i cant remember for the life of me. To me as a fiscal conservative theyre very good ideas, but california is a fiscally liberal area for the most part, and if media doesnt like a plan ,they will make other people hate it too.

I can safely say Ive mentioned many of the counter arguments, especially libertarian ones, countless times outside of thise board in discussions. Just last week I was talking with someone about the definition of a neocon and I pointed out legacy's definition.
