August 1, 200323 yr After voting, explain your choice. Some people might select the Giants trading for Sidney Ponson, but I really think that they didn't need to make that deal. Unless something strange happens, the Giants will continue their mastery over the Dodgers and DBacks. However, the Jose Guillen deal might be the most interesting later on, as he adds offense to a dangerous A's team that is starting to close in on the slumping Mariners. With the Mariners not making any deals to match the A's acquisition, they may lose even more ground to the A's if their struggles continue. Ventura is not going to make any difference at all on the Dodgers. Mondesi might help the DBacks a little, but not enough to win the Wild Card. Boone might help out the Yankees somewhat, but they needed outfield help much more than infield help. The Yankees have had three starters in left field in the past two years alone (Rondell White, John VanderWal, Bubba Trammell). Now all they have is a left-field platoon of David Dellucci and Karim Garcia, both normally bench players. Suppan will have some impact with the Red Sox, but I think the Sox have traded for enough bullpen help lately (Byung-Hyun Kim, Scott Sauerbeck, Scott Williamson) that a starter is not a major priority.
August 1, 200323 yr No brainer, MoneyBall wins again. Honestly, I think the Mondesi and Ventura trades will have no effect on those teams. And if they do have an effect, it will only be negitive.
August 1, 200323 yr The Ponson deal. B/C the G-Men have the NLW locked up for the most part the trade doesn't sem as significant. But the Giants weren't thinking about the D-Backs or Dodgers when they made the trade, they were having visions of Atlanta and the Yank-Mes.

But they want the series this year for sure. Reuter is huge ? right now so they really needed a solid #2 behind schmidt. I don't think he'll be there long. I like the Guillen move just b/c I like the A's and Guillen, what? they're in the AL
August 1, 200323 yr Jose Guillen to the A's. The Mariners didnt make a move and the A's did. Thats Big for the A's they have now more of a shot in the Division.
August 1, 200323 yr Sorry if i went off topic , umm Fish u spelled Derick Lee name wrong... it Derrek Lee
August 1, 200323 yr Jose Guillen to the A's because he will help them big time. It also helps that the mariners made no moves.
