Cambridge Marlin
The Olympic committee in their infinite wisdom, have decided that baseball/softball will not be an Olympic event at the 2012 games, recently awarded to London. Ironically on the plans for the 2012 bid, the baseball diamond was the nearest thing in the image. Was hoping that with the World Cup now looking like a reality, MLB players at the Olympics might have been less of a long shot. japa
doesn't really matter, cause MLB players aren't going, but it was still nice for small countries like the netherlands or other countries where baseball isn't that big to show something
George Dubya Bush
You have to think some anti-Americanism went into this decision. Some sports that might replace baseball: golf, squash, roller sports.

QuickGold
The fact of the matter is beyond the Americas, no one plays it. In 2004, Peter Angelos had to come up with a make-shift team. Cambridge Marlin
Most of south and latin america like the rest of the world play football, but still the top football players in the world dont play in the Olympics, its pretty much an U23 event. I don't see just because MLB players may not participate it shouldn't be there, I'm sure a minor league futures team could have played, and maybe even provided levity to the event. Oh well, who knows, Cricket could be added instead, thats a world wide sport!!!!! :whistle
japa
most team sports suck at the olympics anyway, there's (almost) always something better and the best players never play there (at least in soccer and baseball) the only thing that's interesting at the olympics is athletics and swimming
MVPosey
they need to get rid of any sport where the olympics aren't the pinnacle of the sport

Accord
If anything, Japan is probably the most upset about this, also this is going to have a huge impact on softball considering there is no professional league and besides college, the Olympics is all they've got, or had. I wonder what Jennie Finch is going to do.

Besides soccer, hockey is one of the most popular sports throughout the rest of the world. Sweden, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Slovakia, Canada, Ukraine, and a hell of a lot of other countries are all consumed by hockey. The euro elite leagues are extremely popular in europe just like the NBA and NFL is popular here in America. Saying the rest of the world doesn't care about hockey is like saying American's don't care about football.
