Marlins2003
Even before the game started, and then between the first and second innings, the homeplate umpire was embroiled in an argument with someone (or more) in the Marlins dugout. And after Dontrelle fouled that ball off his foot and he refused to ask for help, it got worse. I was surprised whoever it was survived the game but he extracted his vengeance throughout the night. You can't ask more of Juan Encarnacion than his attempted catch of Burnitz' homerun ball. The wind was indescribable tonight. Burnitz's HR was a pop fly that just carried and carried and carried. Fight the wind was light being in the ring with Mohammed Ali. Mike Lowell's HR was as long as any home run I've seen the guy hit at PPS. He just might be coming around. I'm surprised to find no thread on it or his seven day .300+ batting average. It was mammoth. Messenger's stride to the plate is at least a foot longer than it was last time he was up. The grass in front of homeplate and on the third base line is barren and/or dead. No wonder JP has such trouble bunting at PPS. I know I've commented on this before, but it's getting worse, not better. The Cubs gave up right field in its entirety tonight to every Marlins batter, lefty or righty. The right fielder played in line with third and second. Bizarre. Even for Delgado. Shame on the Marlins for not taking advantage. The Cubs didn't win tonight. Mother Nature did. She played havoc with both teams and embarrassed them both. On JP's throw home attempting to get the runner, the ball moved one way and then the other, literally changing planes in the swirling wind. I hated the outcome and I hated the weather but it was a great game. Anyone who thinks we don't need a retractable dome stadium should be forced to sit through a replay of tonight's game in an Imax theatre with a guy standing behind with a water sprinkler and one of those fans you see in wind tunnels. I thought of Tom Lee often tonight. I hate all Cubs fans, young, old, male, female, I hate them all. .

Glad to see an observation from someone that went there that it was indeed crushed. I agree on your Cub fan sentiment. I could hear them clear as day in the 9th, and it was the typical obnoxious Cub fan sterotype coming to life.

Guest FlummoxedLummox
Great post. I've been waiting to hear from someone who was at the game.
Marlins2003
You look up the word "crushed" in the dictionary and Meriam Webster is now using a photo of Lowell's moonshot. I wish I could describe his swing on that pitch. It was a work of art.

Admin
He got all of it, no doubt about it. The wind could've blown in at 30mph there and it still goes out I bet.

I was soaked through the entire game and getting into fights with an obnoxious Yankees fan and his wife who were hiding a sign just to show it when the damn yankees were up like by 4 runs. He almost poke my eye out! I have been through some heavy rain delays at PPS. You couldn't describe it better. Stay clear of the entrances or you can become into the baseball version of Mary Poppins... The worse ever was back in 1998 or 1999 when we still had that loser of Jesus Sanchez. There was this game that got delayed 3 f... times and, on top of that, lasted until the 15 or 16 inning. Imagine sitting at an almost empty stadium at 2:30 in the morning and seeing the roaches coming out and running wild around the place. My butt was so asleep that I didn't feel it all on the way home. And, on top of that, Jesus Sanchez lost the game in the 16th I think in like two pitches. I don't even remember the other team. I think it was the Astros. The good thing was that that night was the first time I bought the 25 (at the time) tickets to sit in the first level. And then the Marlins gave away tickets for another game because of the rain delays. I got to sit in the first level twice in a row!!! Hey, I was a graduate student at the time and couldn't afford it...

miami15
The highlight of the night was when Loria had four Cubs fans who had no shirts and painted the letter on their stomach ejected from the stadium. They were drunk and obnoxious the whole evening but in the 8th Loria stood up ... turned around and then told the usher in the batter's box to call for the police. Then they escorted them out. It was great
Guest Juanky
Hey 03, not sure if you caught it, but in the ninth inning Damion clearly did not go around on his check swing (on the replay it wasn't even close, he only went a quarter of the way) and the home plate umpire rang him up. Easley looked like he was ready to fight the guy, but Jack quickly got him and they went back to the dugout. Before the Marlins took the field after the delay, Jack and the home plate ump were jawing in a not so kind way about something. Hopefully we can find out what the hell went on because there were a bit too many ump assisted calls today for my liking, and the one in the ninth hurts a little bit extra. miami15
Loria also went nuts after the Dontrelle incident. He actually stood up and uncrossed his arms!!!
TSwift25
I decided to go, and man oh man, that wind was fierce. Rain was pounding, exhibit 1 why we need a new stadium should be tonights game. Either way, the Cubs pounded Dontrelle, but mother nature sure helped them. Too bad the wind wasn't blowing out to left tonight...
