not too long ago, pavano led the majors in hits allowed

last year was a fluke

Contract year, baby.

Lets not forget that Pavs pitched well down the stretch in 2003, and all his stats were somewhat abliterated by that outing against the Red Sox at Fenway in 2003, 0 outs 5 runs??? He also pitched very well in the post season that year. I think the AL East is nasty on pitchers, a certain BIG UNIT has also struggled to adjust along with countless others.

What if the Marlins were asked to take on $28M over the next 3.5 years as in the Marlins lock Pavano at their rate (3/21 + 50% of $7M this year) and pay for the rest of Leiter's contract ($3.5M)?

I get your idea but Leiter isn't being paid $7 million this year. He's being paid over time, in fact his payments are stretched out to 2007-2008. I think Al gets $1 million this year, four equal annual payments of $250k to Lieter's Landing and the rest stretched out over the aforementioned time.

That said, bringing back Pavano, if he's healthy, considering his close relationship with Loria, and out of the media spotlight, might be a great thing for all concerned.

No problem with the general idea of the post though.

BTW, just as a reminder, the Braves are on the hook to Hampton for $13.5 million in 2006, $14.5 in '07 and $15 million in '08.

If the Yankees are willing to take on the rest of leiter's contract and pay a nice chunk of Pavano's contract for Burnett, the Marlins would do that trade in a second. To say Pavano was a fluke last year was one of the worst comments I have ever heard and you obvisouly didnt watch the fish in 2003 and you should be ban forever from this board.

That was a joke, right?

I think the Pavano thing is pure fantasy but the one thing that makes it a step above hogwash is that Carl Pavano and Jeffrey Loria have a very good relationship.
