Who is Sean Burroughs

Featured Replies

11 home runs in nearly 1500 at-bats.

This is supposed to help our offense?

I think Burroughs is a pawn for another trade, along with Shoppach if this true.

Can we get the one from Jacob's Field? Our hitters like hitting homers off it. :whistle

Wow, I didn't realize Burroughs sucked so much. There's no way that three way deal was made. Beinfest isn't idiotic enough to downgrade at pitcher and third base just to get a backup catcher.

An "ex-roider"?? How pathetic :thumbdown

That's alright, it's not like anyone on the Sox takes steroids...... :whistle

If you don't think Mike Lowell was on steroids, you are sadly in denial of the obvoius.

So you think the fact that all of a sudden he can't hit and has no power right after a real steroid policy was put in is just a coincidence?

If he wasn't a Marlin, every single person on this board would think....no, would know he was on steroids.

You're willing to defame the guy without a shred of evidence. None, zero. He's having a bad year but people like you will always look for the easy answer, even though he's never been accused by anyone and has consistently said the same thing, "test me everyday".

It's just pathetic.

Tell you what Craig... be my guest to pin that on him. I'm not sure why you need me to agree with you.

I don't know that he wasn't, but I'm not accusing him of it. But hey, knock yourself out.

Haha, Barry Bonds said "test me everyday", so please spare me the crap.

And if he was bad, that's fine, people struggle. But he's bad and has NO power anymore.....even if he sucked, his home run power wouldn't just disappear.

But the Marlins homers here for Mike are brutal since he is a nice guy and survived cancer, so I won't bother with logic and facts, because that doesn't work.

If the steroid testing hadn't started up, I wonder how many people would be screaming steroids about DLee and Brian Roberts.

Steroids has become the obvious answer to everything. How convenient for the people who demand nice tidy answers when problems arise.

860909

Well first of all, DLee hit I believe 31 home runs last year, and is a big man anyways, and Roberts power swing has really decresed after a hot start, so yeah.

And the key is steroid testing DID start, so we can say with confidence these guys are clean. But at the same time, steroid testing seems to be exposing those who were obviously using (Sosa, Thome, Lowell, etc).

Just my opinion, I wish people would at least be open to the idea this is why Lowell is struggling, because it simply can't be ruled out, there are too many coincidences in both lack of power and timing.

Haters are haters. Fool are fools. And there will be another guy here full of crap tomorrow. I suppose it's the nature of message boards.

I remember when everyone in town was down on Preston Wilson and it turned out we found out much later his baby had died and his wife was divorcing him.

The point is we, you or me, have no idea what's going on with Mike Lowell. His problems might have absolutely nothing to do with baseball or he may just be having a bad year. But absent any empirical evidence, maliciously defaming the guy speaks more poorly of those who do than the guy they spread rumors about.

Now THERE'S a reasonable response. I, in fact, AM open to the possibility. I don't rule anything out. But that is not what you said.

What you said was: "If you don't think Mike Lowell was on steroids, you are sadly in denial of the obvoius."

I'm not in denial of anything. I think it's possible, sure. I just don't think it's true. And yes, part of it is because I'm a Mike Lowell fan & we've watched & gotten to know him over the years. I don't pretend to know anything about him personally, but we base decisions on that sort of thing all the time.

Anyway, I hope you're wrong.

I don't think it matters who Sean Burroughs is, since Peter Gammons said "Red Sox officials have stated that these rumors are pure fiction and nothing more and there is absolutely no truth to it."

*gives up on leaves thread*

Everybody making excuses for Mikey, why can't he just be sucking ass at his job like we accuse everybody else on the team of doing??

Oh yeah, he survived cancer, so he is perfect in every way. Geez.....surviving cancer and coming back to play ball is great, but he is still at fault for his struggles.

Take responsibility for your own failure. And btw, what are you gonna say when he still has no power and can't hit in 2 or 3 years?? Still family problems? Cuz the only way he will be a star again is if MLB gets rid of the current testing policy, and you can take that to the bank.

860938

Thank you, that's all I ask.

and all I ask is that you not think it's "being in denial" to not already deem him guilty of something you have no proof of.

860948

To "be in denial" is to say there is no way he was on steroids like the people here do for the most part.

You admitted there is a chance he was, so that's not in denial at all.

At least he won't bitch about the fans or other players.

860314

says who?

and who cares if a player bitches?

God, some of you are such babies that you care if someone bitches and moans... I just want someone who produces

860318

Bingo! Burroughs used to be a TOP prospect. These kids are clueless. Lowell is damaged goods. Cabs can play 3rd and Hermida can go to the OF is needed.

Shoppach > Treanor.

Hermida and Conine can play the OF.

I love it. SOME PEOPLE ON HERE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DON'T PAY 7.5 MILLION FOR A GUY WHO HAS 4 HR in 300 AB AND 6 HR OVER THE COURSE OF A SEASON!

860336

What about 6 million to someone who has hit 4 HR in 292 at bats and had gone 170 at bats without his homerun over the weekend and hasn't had strong power numbers in 3.5 years? (hint: Paul Lo Duca)

Burroughs is a failed top prospect. Scouts thought he would develop power against major league pitching, and he hasn't. Who cares if Shoppach is better than Treanor. Both are peripheral players who have or would have little to no impact on a team. Arroyo is only mediocre and already coing up on a contract year.

To trade a pitcher of Burnett's calibar, you should do what Oakland did and try and get major league ready pitching prospects.

Trading for mediocre to slightly above average major leaguers only sets your team back. You need to take chances to find replacements for core players, meaning you need to take prospects who could develop into core players.

i actually dont think burroughs is that bad.

ya he doesnt bring you the power, but power isnt all that there is. he is having a bad year, but the last two years he was a high .280s + hitter...he is a contact hitter who doesnt strike out. having a horrible year this year.

a change of scenery will do him good, although i'm not convinced it would be best for him to be here.

still he is not the horrible player made out to be just because he doesnt hit the homer...if there is anything that i would like to see him do as a hitter is focus on hitting line drives to the gaps.

that he can do if given the proper tutilage.
