I don't know about you, but Cabrera in left is a disaster. Cabrera's only drawback is that he is TOOOOOO SLOW. He makes regular mistakes fielding the ball and has a hard time catching up to some balls. I welcome a change to 3rd, because I think that 2 -3 of our losses have come on Cabs' inability to chase the ball down. What do you think?

while u may have a point with Cabrera being better defensively at 3rd...I just dont get how u can blame any of our losses on his Left field defense...

with all the problems we've been having lately, Cabrera's defense is at the bottom of our worries...

As a matter of fact...if our offense would perform the way they're capable of...Cabrera's average defense should be the one thing that gives us a couple 9-1 wins instead of the 9-0 wins we should be having...

Saying Cab's at 3rd (replacing Lowell) is a defensive plus is absurd.

Bigbie over Cabs improves the defense, but Cabs over Lowell doosent.

bigbie is definetly better than Cabrera in the outfield but Cabrera was very solid at third in the NLDS and we haven't really seen much of him at third so who knows if he's better than lowell who knows if he's much worse? give him a chance

Maybe, but a combo of Cabrera at 3B and Bigbie/Conine in LF could make the team better than the current combo of Lowell at 3B and Cabrera in LF.

You know a combo of Hermida in the outfield makes a better defense then old connie and bigbie by far... but cabs isnt close to as good as lowell.

No, No, Lowell is better defensively than Cabrera, but Cabrera at 3rd and a new left fielder will make our overall defense better. Mike Lowell only has 4 errors this year, and 2 came in the same game. Mike Lowell is top notch defensively

I think you have to be kidding yourself thinking that Cabrera will be an upgrade defensively at 3B over Lowell. Really, where did you get that idea from? BTW, he has only 3 errors in the season... wow, I guess he must be a defensive liability like you say... ... :banghead

While I continue my self-imposed sabbatical from discussing trade rumors (it is so liberating I can't begin to tell you, I feel like I'm on vacation), moving Cabrera from left has to improve us defensively no matter how good a glove Lowell has at third.

It's addition by subtraction. We know Miggy can play 3rd. It makes makes JP a better CFer having someone in left who can actually react quickly enough to a play that JP, who has been forced into the position of playing all of center and half of left field too, can now roam CF the way a CFer should.

however, there is some ambiguousness involved in that we dont know how the left field hole will be filled, is bigbie good enough? will there be someone else? is hermida gonna be playing RF next year????? 861956[/snapback]

I can't believe Bigbie would be a starting outfielder, no. I suppose you could have Hermida, JP, and Enc. If Enc or JP gets dealt, maybe throw Willingham out there too, who knows...

I'm more looking at next year. are we better off with cabs in left and lowell at third next year? or are we better off with cabs at third and atleast bigbie in left?

again, if lowell really is done then the second scenario is best. AJ is gone after this season anyways so getting anything back for him benefits us for NEXT year.

now, that said, i do think bigbie is a guy that can hit .280 hit 20 bombs and steal 20 bags.......last year, his first full year he hit .265 with 15 bombs. he may be a pretty decent guy to have and is 28 years old.

Read what I said in the post above yours. What I meant was that Cabs at third instead of left will improve the defense when Lowell is traded, because Cabs cant play left. Lowell is the better fielding thrid baseman though

Exactly. Spot on.Cabs at thirs is much better than him in left. He has become a liability out there and a move back to his original position should help him and the team defensively. You are exactly right when you say that Pierre has ground to cover for Cabrera when he is in left and now it should make things a heck of a lot simpler for him and the team. I have seen Cabs miss some balls hit to him and sometimes it seems like he is jogging when balls are hit to the corners.
