July 29, 200521 yr THANK GOD!!!!!!!! Biron is the WORST defensman I've EVER seen put on a Panthers sweater. The lockout was worth it just to see this day finally come. Good riddance.
July 29, 200521 yr now bring me Thornton. 2 names I have heard are on our radar are Bertuzzi and Messier
July 29, 200521 yr Markus Naslund? Followed by his good buddy Pete Forsberg. You can throw Chris Pronger in along the blue line as well. :thumbup
July 29, 200521 yr Whats going to be interesting is what is the market value of these players? No thanks to Messier. Anyone else is welcome and will make the team better. It will be interesting to see what players we end up signing. I would not give any player more than 5 million a year.
July 29, 200521 yr I miss the lockout because it allowed me to forget how bad the Panthers were...hopefully with the salary cap they can sign some guys and become at least decent.
July 29, 200521 yr now bring me Thornton. 2 names I have heard are on our radar are Bertuzzi and Messier 878169 Thornton isn't an UFA, the only way we'd be able to acquire him is through a trade which would probably only be accepted if it included Bouwmeester, who is untouchable. Messier would be our 3rd line center at best, certainly not a marquee guy you want to build around at this stage in the game in what probably is his last year if he doesn't retire before the season. Bertuzzi would be great, but so many hockey "fans" in South Florida don't know the type of superstar player that he really is is and would just think of him as the guy who broke another players neck. It's good to see all these hockey threads on here
July 29, 200521 yr Biron and Ulanov were the worst D men of all time. 878650 Right on point. Disgusts me that they once donned a Panthers uni. But at least it's in the past now!

And they also offered him a 5 year 25 million dollar contract which is less than the qualifier! Anyways look for Thorton to accept the 5.19 and then be a UFA at the end of the year. BTW how much do you think Naslund and Bertuzzi are going to want? I think at first it will be wierd because the players are still going to be thinking they are worth 7 million, and many teams wont pay that.
July 30, 200521 yr Most of the marquee players will command the maximum or close to it, since it's still relatively low. As far as Bertuzzi, was his ban ever even lifted?
July 30, 200521 yr As far as Bertuzzi, was his ban ever even lifted? 879377 Looks like Bertuzzi will still have a 10-20 game suspension to sit through. ESPN.com story
