The latest on Manny

Featured Replies

I could have sworn I just heard on ESPN that there a deal on the table that has Manny and Danys Baez to the Mets, Aubrey Huff to the Sawks, and prospects to the DRays

:o

why the hell do the sox do that?

Huff is a stud. Manny wants out. Manny is a royal pain in the ass, if they can get rid of him and his salary and pick up someone like Huff and Baez they would be stupid not to do it. I would hate to see the Mets with Manny.

Huff has tons of potential. Not the best fielder, but the guy can rake.

He will look like Willie Mays compared to Manny.

Trading Cameron would weaken the Mets a whole lot more than Manny strengthens them.

Manny's a hell of a hitter, don't get me wrong, but him and Floyd in the corners is an awfully scary proposition to Mets pitchers, and it's not like Shea is a hitters' paradise...

With the Sunday 4 p.m. ET trade deadline fast approaching, the defending champion Boston Red Sox could be on the verge of making another blockbuster deal for the second year in a row.

ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney has confirmed there are ongoing talks for a possible three-way trade that would send Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez to the Mets, who would also acquire closer Danys Baez from the Devil Rays.

The other components of the deal would see the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox.

The prospects include right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and outfielder Lastings Milledge from the Mets and catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez from the Red Sox.

Boston GM Theo Epstein has showed he's not shy about making shakeups at the trade deadline. A year ago, Epstein engineered a three-team deal that saw the Red Sox part with Nomar Garciaparra.

Team president Admin Lucchino said Thursday that Ramirez had requested a trade from Boston.

Ramirez is batting .275 with 28 homers and a major league-leading 92 RBI for the Red Sox. He is due $64.2 million from his $160 million, eight-year contract.

that is some prospect list

Yeah, for Huff and Baez, the D-Rays make out better than the Red Sox.

BTW, why would the Red Sox have to give up Sanchez and Shoppach in addition to Manny...Manny for Huff and Cameron is pretty fair, I'd say they're getting ripped if it's Manny and prospects for those guys. I mean, it's not like Manny isn't earning his money, he's actually performing.

Oh, and if the Mets are willing to give up Petit and Milledge, wouldn't it make more sense to just go get Soriano?

Petit, Milledge, Sanchez, and Shoppach?

Everyone complains about the DRay GM asking for too much, but my Lord if teams are going to pay (mainly the Mets) might as f***ing well. Division champs from 2008-2013.

b/c there not going to pay any of Manny remaining contract, so that is why they would take less in this deal

also what a package of prospects both the Mets and R-Sox ....wow what coup of top pitching prospects. haven't the Mets learn there lesson dealing with TB(Kazmir ring a bell :D )

A proposed three-team deal involving the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays "hit a roadblock" Friday night, according to a baseball official familiar with the discussions.

The deal proposed would have sent unhappy Boston slugger Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox.

But with a 4 p.m. ET deadline looming Sunday, it could be too late to finish the blockbuster on time.

"I don't know if it's completely dead," said an official of one of the three teams. "But it's hit a roadblock ? unless someone has some other thoughts."

A source said the Red Sox felt they could not go ahead with trading Ramirez and two prime prospects -- reportedly catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez -- if all they were receiving was New York's Cameron and Tampa Bay's Huff. So they went back to the Mets "for more pieces," the source reported. At that point, the Mets "squashed the whole thing" and talks broke off.

What's uncertain now is whether the deal can be revived, or even whether any portion of it can be revived. The Mets had been talking separately to the Devil Rays about Baez, and the Red Sox had been talking with Tampa Bay about Huff. Then on Friday afternoon, the teams made an attempt to connect the two trades. The Devil Rays were described by sources as being ecstatic about the prospects they would have received -- the Mets were prepared to include right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and outfielder Lastings Milledge -- so they're expected to keep pressing the Mets and Red Sox to put the pieces back together.

But if those efforts take all weekend, "by that time the deadline will be over," said an official of one of the three teams. And that might leave all three clubs empty-handed at the deadline. So the most likely scenario now is that the teams make one more effort Saturday to see if there's another combination that works. And if not, they would be forced to move on to Plan B.

All of you criticizing the Mets for giving up a lot of prospects need to step off. They still have Gaby Hernandez and Brian Bannister (who are both pitching better than Petit) as well as Humber and Pelfrey. Trading Petit and Milledge is hard, but when you have a chance to land hall of fame talent you do it. Hell, people ctiticized them for trading their top flight CF prospect and #1 arm for a major talent, and we all know how Mike Piazza worked out.

As for Cameron being more valuable to the team than Manny? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA

HA

Adding Manny and Baez make this team instant contenders this season, next, and probably the year after.

Gaby Hernandez rules i see him a lot because i go to the school he pitched at his dad is my coach the mets have a great pitcher in him, for those who don't know he was the one that dedicated a game on fathers day to his dad and threw a no hitter
