What's the AL and the MLB records?

Kansas City is four defeats from tying the AL record of 21 in a row set by Baltimore at the start of the 1988 season, and the Royals' club-record skid is the longest in the major leagues since that Orioles slump.

The 1961 Philadelphia Phillies dropped 23 straight from July 29 to Aug. 20, according to the Elias Sports Bureau -- the longest losing streak in the big leagues since 1900.

I saw on SportsCenter that the longest losing streak is 21 by the Orioles, the second longest streak is 19 by the Tigers, and this current streak by the Royals is the third longest streak. I didn't see anything about the Phillies 23 game losing streak, are you sure it's real? SportsCenter didn't say anything about it, and they said everything clear--that the record is 21 games in MLB.

Either way, it's all good. I think the Royals will break the record, even if it's 23 and not 21. Here are some stats to show you how bad they've been:

The Royals are 6 games behind the second to worst team in the majors, the Rockies. They have the least amount of wins in the leauge at home and on the road, and they have the most losses in the leauge at home. They're 36.5 games back in the AL Central. If they were in the NL West they would only be 19 games back. They're 15-43 on the road. None of their starters have a BA over .300. The highest BA on the team is .297 by Mike Sweeney. Ryan Jensen, a reliever, is the only pitcher on the team with a winning record. Ryan, Leo Nunez, and Danny Bautista are the only pitchers on the team with a decision and without a losing record. Andrew Sisco is the only pitcher on the team with an ERA under 4.00(2.72).....etc.

This is from AP

I remember when I was a kid my dad was so upset with the Orioles the year they lost their first 21 games. Growing up as an Orioles fan my dad had the BIG satellite to pick up Oriole games.

Now lets see if the Royals can maintain the futility. Does anyone realize how hard it is in baseball to lose 17 + games in a row?

Actually it's pretty easy..

Just play like a little league team vs. the MLB and there ya go..

This wouldnt be the first time SportsCenter has fudged

WOW. SportsCenter messed up so badly....wow. :o

I mean, I don't think the 23 is true because then they would have just said it instead of saying "accoring to the..." But as far as the other 3 times there has been a 20 and 18 game losing streak, I think that's true, and they never mentioned that. Maybe they messed up, and maybe they didn't. Whatever.

Wow, thats gotta suck. I can't imagine my team losing 17 in a row. I get pissed when we lose 2 straight :plain

They gave up a grand slam in the first inning....they had no chance.

And things aren't going to get easier for them either.

In their next 9 games they play the A's, Yankees, and Red Sox.

How's that for a schedule? I say 3 more sweeps.

Those poor bastards and their fans. :(

Rich Harden is starting against KC tonight. I wonder what the betting line is? must be like 450 to 120

907895[/snapback]

Kansas City +280

The only others tonight over +200 are

San Francisco +250 (Chris Carpenter)

LA Dodgers +230 :whistle

For the record the all time ML record is 25 set by the Cleveland Spiders.

On BBTN they just played the update horn and when Kruk saw it was the A's-KC game he said "Oh no." Funny thing though...they took the lead, 2-1.
