Sorry, but I think it's funny.

Maybe it's because I'm from out of state.

what is funny about that?

Due to the storm, there are 11 death down here, flooding, and a lot of people without power.

OH GOD!!!!!

Hes not even talking about that dude. Sheesh. :plain

that's the fact that SC, you and others seems to have forgotten about :plain

So you might as well interupt every thread on this forum and suggest that everyone not talk about the topic at hand and concern themselves with the recent tragedies. Like TV doesnt show enough. :glare

pointing out that it is bad taste for SC to mock attendance on a city that just went throught a significant storm

That may be so, but what is the excuse every other night when there isn't a hurricane? Granted, the conditions are not exactly ideal for watching a ballgame, but the attendance is borderline "Atlanta Braves level" pathetic.

When the topic is "TRAGEDY AT HAND" then you can comment on anyone talking off of topic. :shifty

do you guys even know that upper deck is closed most of the time during the week? try to buy an upper deck seat online for tomorrow

When ESPN.com or anyone reports % capacity, the upper deck is not included in the %.

Yes, it is. But the rest of what I quoted was good posting.

you would know my point if you lived down here.

hint, that restricts considerably availability of cheap tickets and walk up crowds.

we aren't going no where with this discussion, so keep the "Miami sucks" mentality

And the Oscar goes to.................... :lol :lol :lol

Are you sure Juanky? This is what ESPN reports for tonight...

Attendance: 20,073 (55.3% full)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Upper Deck were open, Dolphins stadium can hold 60,000+. That would put the percent attendance closer to 30%. So I truly believe it does not include the upper deck. Although that is just speculation on my part.

I believe lower deck can hold around 25K (being conservative). Don't have hard facts, this is based on personal observation.

Actually, I just used retrosheet.org to find the boxscore and subsequently the attendance of Game 4 of the 2003 World Series (Alex's extra inning, HR)...

65934

So, I'm thinking they don't routinely count the upper deck.

I'm 110% sure.

The entire upper deck holds 67,000+.

Sellout for baseball is ~36,000 during the regular season. Lower deck holds ~25,000 people. Last I checked, we don't have 11,000 hover seats that linger somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. All the Upper Deck seats that can be bought for a baseball sellout are counted in the percentage. Seats that are after the baseball sellout number are only counted if they are sold, so the Marlins can fill over 175% capacity if need be.

No, sold out crowd is considered 38K or so. so that % you presented before is a faulty stat if upper deck is closed

do the math

Thanks, Juanky. The 175% of sellout makes it all clearer. I didn't factor that into my considerations.

And FreshFish, I did do the math. I think you got what I stated confused. I was trying to say that 55% capacity at 20K would put a sellout around 38,000, which means they consider a sell out not filling the Upper Deck. But apparently you both already knew that. I unfortunately, did not. So I was actually just trying to argue a point that you guys already knew as fact.

Oh well. Now I know.

I've never been down there, but every seat in DS is not up for admittance for baseball games, I think.

Anyway who really cares.

Part of the Marlins horrendous lease arrangement allows for only about 38,000 seats to be available. When, for example, in the playoffs, when attendance swells beyond that number the Fish must "rent" additional sections from HH (Huizenga Holdings) and if they need let's say 200 additional seats in a section they have rent the entire section.

So that means that you did have 55 percent attendance since 20k out of 38k is roughly 55 percent.

the boxscore attendance thing they use is for the baseball capacity which is I believe around 36,000.

look at the opening day box score. its over 100%

is that accurate when the upper deck section is closed? If lower deck only accomodates 25K or so

Whats new? I always say what can I do about the attendance and the answer to that is nothing.. I go to about 20 games a year and I am doing my job ;)

I think the crowd was pretty good for after the hurricane and for being a weekday. Our fan base is growing slowly... give it time :D

I don't think ESPN realizes the damage in South Florida because it pales in comparision to what's going on in New Orleans and Mississippi. New Orleans is basically destroyed... seeing the footage on TV one can't help think that that destruction is one of biblical proportions. I have family from NO (Thank God they're out)... it's scary.
