September 12, 200520 yr Anyone have any tips to help me quit smoking? Like things that personally worked for them.
September 12, 200520 yr When I smoked daily and decided to stop, I just put them down. Ol fashioned willpower for me.
September 12, 200520 yr Go to your doctor and tell him/her that you want to quit. They'll give you some meds that you can combine with the patch/gum/inhaler etc...the data shows they work pretty well.
September 12, 200520 yr Author I've tried cold-turkey but all my friends smoke and I go to smoke filled bars so its tough to kick the temptation there. And I dont have a doctor, aint been to a doctor in about 9 years, but I think I might try that out.
September 12, 200520 yr Are you talking about going cold turkey? If so, good for you, thats probably the best way to eliminate nicotine from your body the fastest, probbaly within 10-18 days, depending on how much you are used to smoking a day. I know a few people who have done this and kicked the habit in no more than 3 weeks. I do have a friend of mine who used theg um and kicked it that way, but it took alot longer and he went back on his treatment alot of times during the process.
September 12, 200520 yr Jump off the tallest building in town. The agony of not having a sweet cancer stick when you're having a serious nic fit will drive you to suicidal thoughts and we all know that old saying, "don't put off for tomorrow what you could do today". Carpe diem!
September 12, 200520 yr Author Thanks for all the advice. It's one of those habits you wish you'd never started. I didn't start smoking until I was 19(I'm 21 now). I was stressed out in Iraq and it helped, but now back here I am not stressed anymore but still have the habit.
September 12, 200520 yr bro man u gotta do it. lung cancer has one of the highest fatality rates. or throat cancer you cant eat or tongue cancer or gum cancer causing you to lose your teeth. cmon u gotta quit, every time u want to smoke think of all the bad things it causes. Hey good luck :thumbup this is one thing worth working really hard for: your health
September 12, 200520 yr Off-topic, but, Rorod, is AJ you "stink" the best you could come up with? You couldve said suck.. And just quit, Spike, quit smoking..
September 13, 200520 yr Just use normal bubble gum, Extra since it lasts longer. As long as you have something in your mouth you shouldn't get bad cravings.
September 13, 200520 yr you have been smoking for 2 years and you wanna quit? ... but why? smoke up johnny ... I cant quit ... ill quit when I want to. thats the best reason to stop smoking and the only way to actually work. but you have to REALLY want to, and that means stop hanging out with smokers friends and smoke filled bars for at least 2-3 weeks, that way all the nicotine is out of your body mmmm cancer sticks
September 13, 200520 yr "cancer merchant! cancer merchant! cancer merchant!" I only smoke cloves when I go out and I just limit myself to 2 per night and ONLY when I go out. You might try and phase it out if you have an accountability partner.
September 13, 200520 yr i used to smoke and had smoked since high school. im now 27. i have quit numerous times over the years and have always found that while i was in college it was the hardest thing in the world as long as i kept going out to nightclubs. the patch, gum and any other gimmick out there really doesnt do s*** for you unless you have the willpower. the patch does not stop you from taking it off and sparking up a smoke. at first i limited myself to one smoke after work and forced myself to not smoke all day while at work. it was such a bitch but it really felt good at the end of the day to have just that one. after a while i just plain old got sick of it. thats right i got sick of it. i noticed that it didnt do s*** for me, not even cured my craving i was having. i noticed that the only thing it was doing was bothering my throught. im gonna be straight up with you though, the biggest thing to help me stop smoking cigarette's was to smoke a lil pot at night to just relax and get my brain off it. now im at the point where i dont need either and dont have any cravings. i think the best thing to do in your case is too stay out of bars for a while. thats is the hardest place to resist having one. btw i heard the laser surgery works wonders and is painless
September 14, 200520 yr what's the laser surgery jondigital? 944889[/snapback] its laser therapy. its similar to acupuncture. the laser acts as a tool to help through the initial physical withdrawals from nicotine. The first 72 hours of quitting is considered to be the crucial detoxification period. The laser mimics a similar endorphin release for a period of 3-5 days following treatment, which aids in alleviating stress associated with giving up nicotine. ive had a few friends do it and its worked wonders. i hear a commercial on 790 the ticket all the time for a place in Miami somewhere.
