September 14, 200520 yr Roger Clemens - S - HOU - Sep. 14 - 9:06 am et There is debate within the Astros as to whether or not Roger Clemens will pitch tonight. Phil Garner says he's playing, but there are rumors in the clubhouse that he will be with his ailing mother instead. Ezequiel Astacio (2-6, 5.75 ERA) admitted he was told by pitching coach Jim Hickey to be ready just in case he was needed to start tonight. It sounds like Rocket's about 50-50 for tonight, but given the importance of the game, he'll probably be there. Sep. 14 - 9:06 am et Source: Houston Chronicle i thought most would find this interesting. how much should be looked into it is another story. regardless we might get a rocket without his head 100% in teh game
September 14, 200520 yr Is this good or bad? :lol (About Clemens pitching tonight ) I hope his Mother gets better soon :thumbup
September 14, 200520 yr I really hope Clemens mother gets better. That should be the important thing, and not baseball. Hopefully she is better and Clemens doesn't have to lose any time. To be the best, you have to beat the best. I want to face the Rocket tonight
September 14, 200520 yr I'd rather we face the other guy - I like odds and numbers - I don't care HOW we get to the playoffs.............
September 14, 200520 yr I can't see him missing this start. I could however see him being extra motivated to get the win for his mom.

September 14, 200520 yr This is one of those situations that I have mixed emotions. As a Fish fan I would rather him not start, but I also don't want it to be because his mom is near death. Either way, let's just play hard.
September 14, 200520 yr Clemens' mom means the world to him. The only reason the retirement talk even happened was that he wanted his mother to be at his H.O.F. induction more than anything. I hope she's OK, and I hope we get Clemens tonight, back-dooring our way into the playoffs isn't the way it should happen.
September 14, 200520 yr Roger, go be with your mother tonight, she is more important than baseball... all of us at MB.com won't mind one bit! :thumbup .
September 14, 200520 yr While it's true that a lot of atheletes seem to play better after a death to a parent, I don't know if that holds when the parent is sick. How could he not be distracted, thinking about how he ought to be with her rather than pitching? The Astros should tell him to be with his mom. He seems like he needs the rest anyway, and maybe this explains his struggles in his last two starts.
September 14, 200520 yr I wanna face him too.....This is what it's all about. Playing the best and beating them to make our way into the playoffs!
September 14, 200520 yr Author that is really horrible. i really hope for the best for his family in dealing with this horrible loss
September 14, 200520 yr His mother has been sick for quite a while now.....but still, very sad to hear she has passed. RIP.
September 14, 200520 yr apparently he is pitching tonight in her honor. This could be a very emotional game
September 14, 200520 yr my sincere condolences... RIP mommy rocket without sounding like a jerk...anybody hear any updates if he will play?
September 14, 200520 yr c/o 11 News KHOU (KHOU.com) "The mother of Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens passed away Wednesday morning due to complications from emphysema. Clemens intends to pitch tonight in honor of his mother, according to his foundation. "
September 14, 200520 yr I hope he pitches a perfect game 945065[/snapback] and I hope we score 10 runs in the first inning :thumbup
