Bush asks for a bathroom break

That's shameful! Presidents shouldn't have to use the bathroom! He's a bad President! Clinton never went to the bathroom!

Reuters Photog Appears to Capture Bush at U.N. With 'Bathroom Break' Note

NEW YORK In what seems destined to become one of the most yakked about photos of the month, if not year, a Reuters photographer today seems to have captured President George W. Bush scribbling a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a session at the United Nations. On the note is a message revolving around the need to take a "bathroom break."

The photo by Denver-based Rick Wilking, taken over a man's shoulder, shows an official -- identified in the caption (at Reuters' official site) as President Bush -- scribbling in pencil on a small white piece of paper that already contains the words: "I think I MAY NEED A BATHroom break?"

The caption at the Reuters photo site reads:

"U.S. President George W. Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a Security Council meeting at the 2005 World Summit and 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York September 14, 2005. World leaders are exploring ways to revitalize the United Nations at a summit on Wednesday but their blueprint falls short of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's vision of freedom from want, persecution and war."

The photo, which naturally is already making the rounds of the Web, can be found here.

Wilking, a former Reuters staffer in Europe, took several other photos today at the U.N. posted at the Reuters site. He recently covered the hurricane disaster in the Gulf, and on Sept. 2 was profiled at E&P Online.

He told E&P's Jay DeFoore at that time that he decided to leave New Orleans only after his laptop and two cameras were stolen from his car parked near the convention center. But he vowed to return to cover the "human tragedy."

One online bio of Wilking describes him as a "presidential photographer" with 12 years experience shooting pictures in Washington or on various White House assignments. It says he started his career as a photojournalist for the Colorado Daily in 1974.

The sad thing is that its real. The question is, why is he asking Condi if he can use the bathroom. Plus he "may" need to use the restroom.... he doesn't know if he needs it or not? :lol

I'm missing the humor. The guy had to pee or something.

*shrugs*

I could have just not posted, but it's just not funny. Or relevant. To ANYTHING.

So you find nothing wrong with a grown man, the leader of the free word, passing a note around to his secretary of state asking if he can go to the restroom that he "may" have to use? Okay. I would hate to know what your sense of normal is.

Wow, I thought this was funny, but now I see how you are trying to twist something that is pretty much nothing into something you think is incompetence.

You sound like one of those lame teachers from back in the day when you asked 'Can I go to the bathroom'...they would respond, 'I dont know, can you?'

Talk about stopping at nothing to take a pot shot at Bush. :plain

Anyways, I think the photographer of this shot deserves some kindof award, the angle and clarity of the picture is damn impressive...

That's a very badass picture, I have to agree with JJ. But other than that, who cares? Honestly? Presidents don't s*** gold or are able to magically transport their pee, they are human beings just like us believe it or not. The reason he was most likely giving the note to Rice was so she could fill him in with whatever he may have missed while he was gone.

Talk about a stretch.

You're right she wouldn't realize the fact that he suddenly disappeared from her side. :plain

I guess I just expect grown men in general to know when they need to use the bathroom, let alone don't need to ask like a grade school kid if they are allowed to. I guess I ask for too much.

Quite frankly, if you want to make a big deal about somebody needing to go to the bathroom, you need to properly re-examine what your political beliefs are. I try to think defecation isn't a trait worth voting over.

The guy said he didn't find it funny and I said its because the guy is the president of the USA is asking for a bathroom break by writing it down like a 12 year old, its hilarious. Its not a pot shot its just what happened, and it's HILARIOUS. I didn't say anything political over it, you guys added that in and assumed it.

Also lay off the Steven A Smith stuff.

I don't watch Quite Frankly, thanks very much. Believe it or not it's a phrase in the english language that I happen to have a preference towards using. If you don't like it, well, tough.

And what is he supposed to do, just get up and tell Rice he's gonna pee? He's in the middle of a meeting, that's rude as hell. I don't know how old you are, but if you've ever been in a business meeting or any kind of serious gathering you know it is bad manners to just get up unannounced even if it is to go to the bathroom. To criticize the President for telling a cabinet member he's going to the bathroom, which was for the purpose of not being rude, is just fishing for Anti-Bush material. You can seriously do better than this.

I am not criticizing, it is just hilarious. You guys are the ones digging thinking this is anti-Bush stuff. I guess you don't see the humor in this, that a grown man is first of all not sure if he needs to use the bathroom and then secondly asking someone else if he is allowed to go. Sorry that you don't have a humor bone in your body.

And let me understand, whispering and leaving is rude, but writing a note and leaving isn't? :mischief2

Come on, guys, save it for an election year. This is funny. It just is. This doesn't have to be about left and right.

And frankly, the President could use a little personal moment like this. It's kind of cute.

I'm not a Republican and I'm NOT trying to turn this into a debate (for once). I just don't find it funny.

It's cool if you do. I just don't think it is.

Oh yes, you caught me, I have no sense of humor. Watch me not laugh at the unfunny joke because of my lack of a funny bone. Hardy har har.

How would you have worded a note to announce you are excusing yourself to go to the bathroom, oh wise one?

Well first of all I would not say "I may need a bathroom break" if I needed to go to the bathroom I would know if I needed to or not. I am only half his age, but I know what my body wants in that department when it wants it. And if I needed to go I would either whisper that I needed to be excused for a moment or write "I need to excuse myself for a moment", I would not ask someone else if I am allowed to go, or if I have to go, that is for sure.

It would've been funnier had he gotten up and said "I got to pee" ala Forrest Gump.

:lol

that picture combined with the context makes for hilarity. Just imagine the late night TV possibilities. Can't wait for Conan.

I fail to see the humor, or why people feel the need to take anything Bush does and manipulate it to such an extent.

It's been over a year since he won the election, get over it already, jeez.

:lol It's just funny man. Why do you need to bring politics into it?

Man it's freakin hilarious photo of Bush asking for a potty break. GET OVER THE POLITICS NO ONE MENTIONED IT BUT YOU BUSH SUPPORTERS. If Kerry was president and he did that, you guys would be aaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll over that stuff as would the rest of us still. Go back to abortion protesting and denying the poor instead of bringing your politics into the picture man.

wow, you just keep going.

is that you, soriano?

I was thinking PhishPhan aka Jeffrey Loria and Quicksilver.
