September 26, 200521 yr Lowell at 2B with Castillo at SS........ DONT GO FLAMING ME YET! I think the main concern is to keep a nucleous with Delgado and Cabrera being our muscle offensively and trying to find one proven starter with a bunch of bullpen help. I know dumping Lowell will certainly give us some good room to get some money for our specific needs, but if we do give Mikey a chance to play next year, I thought this can be a possibility. A-Gon is outta here, Ency as well and Niner is most likely going to retire. I really want to see Cabs stay at 3rd and give Hermida a chance to show us what he can do since he has been proven in the minors for quite sometime. I cant see the Marlins investing too much money in some free agent shortstop and Andino is still too young in the game of baseball period let alone the majors. Mikey has experience at second and he doesnt seem too shabby out there. With some practice, I can see him definitely improving. Castillo is a gold glover with the range to play shortstop. If A-Rod can change positions, I can definitely see Castillo taking on the change with all the time we're gonna have in the offseason. Opinions?
September 26, 200521 yr I also thought about this when I saw Mikey playing at 2nd base. It would be interesting, but I'm not sure the Luis has the arm strength for it though.
September 26, 200521 yr Absolutely not. Castillo has leg issues, has for a few years now, all we need is him trying to range at shortstop. Lowell as 2B is fine for a couple weeks, not for a whole season. I mean, if you really wanted to do this combo, wouldn't Lowell play SS? Castillo is a gold glove 2B. And I'm not saying we should do that either. If Mike Lowell is on the team next season, Cabrera is playing LF. It's that simple.
September 26, 200521 yr It would be interesting, but I'm not sure the Luis has the arm strength for it though. Hell, Louie's got the arm strength to be an outfielder. IMO, physically, he has all the tools he needs to play SS. It just seems odd to ask a multi-GG, career 2B to move over to a brand new position...but then again, asking a GGer to move isn't exactly unheard of.
September 26, 200521 yr Why should an All-Star, Gold Glove player have to change positions to make room for a .230 player?
September 26, 200521 yr Luis is one of only 7 active players to have played more than 1,000 career games at only 1 position. No chance he's going to SS.
September 26, 200521 yr Uproot a Gold Glover at second so a career 3b can play there rather than at short? No, thank you.
September 26, 200521 yr Mike Lowell has limited range at third, and this is supposed to get better at second where he has to cover more ground (especially with Delgado at first)? Pass.
September 26, 200521 yr I don't want Mike Lowell doing ANYTHING that means he will have to bat 4 times in a game.
September 26, 200521 yr How about putting Cabs at SS? He came up as a SS and the big question is his range but if he was a SS in the minors he has to have at least an average range to have played there in the first place.

You took the words out of my mouth (or fingertips in this case). If it comes down to moving ppl around I think Cabrera is the one who has the best shot at adapting. Besides, he was a shortstop coming up, so I doubt he has forgotten how to play that position. He is much bigger now to play shortstop, but look at ARod, he's huge and still made it. Anyways, anywhere that u put Cabs in the infield he will be better than in the outfield.
