September 27, 200521 yr from the Herald, since some of you are questioning whether or not he'll be here... DELGADO ASSURANCE Delgado said he was assured by Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria when the team was in Houston that he would not be traded this offseason. ''That's what he told me,'' Delgado said wasn't sure if this was posted or not.
September 27, 200521 yr After seeing first hand the kind of numbers Delgado can put up, and seeing how desperatly the team needs offensive production, it would have really been a huge step backwards for them. Its great to hear such news, thanks! :thumbup
September 27, 200521 yr I thought this was the case: 1- How do you lure future FA's if you trade him after one year. 2- He is worth the money, why trade one of the guys outperforming or performing up to his pay. 3- we need him behind Cabrera.
September 27, 200521 yr I didn't think he would be for a second anyway. More doom & gloom theories from the fans based off nonsense media reports from sources.
September 27, 200521 yr That was all just Gammons salivating at the thought of Delgado moving to a New York team.
September 27, 200521 yr Delgado was the best player not to get all the hype this year. He has numbers just as good as Cabrera (some even better!) Great pickup by the Fish. Best FA signing in the offseason. I'd say he he is top 5 in the NL right now.
September 27, 200521 yr If the Marlins traded Delgado, the already bad fanbase would get even worse and people would think it's another fire sale.
September 27, 200521 yr trading that man would be saying to all the fans taht were goining into another rebuilding stage. which IMO would be devastating for this franchise.
September 27, 200521 yr Batting 9th, Peter Gammons with an average of .150 I hear Petey doesn't like his manager or teammates. He's dreaming of moving to the northeast or some other big market.

September 27, 200521 yr Author I didn't think there was any chance of it either, but just posted it for the doom-&-gloomers. Loria's certainly not obligated to, but it was good of him to tell Carlos regardless, just in case he had any doubt that Loria is committed.
September 27, 200521 yr The speculation was there for Delgado being traded because I believe the first year of his contract (this season) is pretty light, so if the Marlins wanted to trade him, they wouldn't have invested alot in him.
September 27, 200521 yr Knew it was crap to start...Loria says his #1 thing is winning and that would not be a move that would help a team win, both in getting rid of a great player and character guy, and in making it much harder to sign any more FA's.
September 27, 200521 yr Good man that Loria guy is. I was getting a little worried that the Delgado might go and the whole damn franchise would be effed up.
