Most obscure former Marlins player ?

Featured Replies

Altho he never really played for the Big Fish, I remember going to Portland Seas Dogs games in Reading (Phillies AA) to see Tim Clark who was touted as a huge prospect...Same with Nate Rolison

Who could forget Darrell Whitmore's great catch tumbling over the right field-foul line fence?

How' bout Rich Rodriquez? Pretty decent reliever for a little while.

Terry "The Body" Matthews. Oh how I despised him.

*Hopes he doesn't read this board*

Yorkis Perez - Can groove a fastball down the pike like no other..Didn't he end up with the Phillies briefly after the Fish?

How about Jesus Sanchez - he was a little lefty with plenty of spunk...Used him for pinch running alot too.

I remember the little punk. He was the reason why I sat during 16 or 17 painful innings of a twice rain-delayed game back in 1998 or 1999 against the Astros, just to see him lose the game with 5 pitches. We ended up losing like by 5 runs and I got home like at f... 3:00 in the morning

Jesus Sanchez :chair

ooo I win....

Juan Alvarez...pitched like 10 innings in relief in 2003...after a brief stint as a Texas Ranger...

Ah yes, my friend's cousin.

Ugh ~ ! I remember that game like it was yesterday. :banghead

I loved Bruce Aven.

He was so awesome.

How about Mario Diaz or Rich Scheid?

I actually hung out with Rich Scheid, another youngster named Sammy Sosa and a catcher (I forget who it was..but he was a rookie at the time) at Confetti's (for anyone old enough to remember the club) back in the early 90's. They were in town during spring training with the White Sox to play the Yanks in FTL. Rich was as wet behind the ears as one could get...but seemed like a decent guy.

As for Sammy...well, I forever get to say I hung out with Sammy Sosa. Granted it was the Sammy that hit 10 homers and 30rbis, made very little $$ and had arms that were not much bigger than mine :whistle

I just remember the most obscure:

Jim Corsi

Junior Felix

Bret "I can't believe I let Jillian go" Barberie

Alex Arias

Nobody has mentioned

Archie Corbin 17games in 99

Nate Teut 2 games in 02

Willie Banks 9 games in 95

Chad Allen 12 games in 03

Mike Gulan 6 games in 01

or my vote for most obscure, Benito Baez, 8 games in 01. Can anyone actually say the were there to see Benito Baez pitch? I think not.

Brian Edmondson.

One of my favorite Marlins ever.

:thumbup Definitely, though I really know him from his days after the Marlins.

Why? Was he at Portland?

He was, but we really got a chance to talk with him the year after (when he was with the Erie Seawolves). We had season tickets next to the visiting bullpen, so we were close. I think we started talking on the night of the annual Sea Dogs baseball card giveaway - he mentioned that he was probably on three teams' set that year (Akron, Erie, and another I can't remember). We recognized his name from the Marlins, and we got talking about the organization, from the attendance problems to the ownership. It's not too often we cheered for an opposing pitcher when they came in the game, but we did for him!
