Your 2006 Marlins Starting Rotation

Beckett: Our beloved ace, we hope will stay healthy in 2006, and he could have a monster season.

Willis: If he has a season just like the one he had, or gets close, we will be in good shape.

Vargas: We've seen the kid work, he's got talent, and in a few years he'll be a threat, but he's ready for the bigs.

Olsen: Olsen showed he has the stuff to pitch on our team. He just has to prove he can be healthy.

Josh Johnson: We haven't seen much of him. Im guessing he will battle the spot with Moehler.

I have to believe the FO will acquire at least starting pitcher, either through free agency or via a trade, and re-sign Moehler as insurance.

It's doubtful you'll see three (counting Vargas) rookie pitchers as part of the opening day roster in 2006, which is not to say you won't see the three of them in the rotation at some point in the season.

Then there's always Nic Ungs who continues to tear it up wherever he pitches...

An ERA in the mid 3's at AA Carolina isn't exactly tearing up. He''s 26, so I think he would be a reliever at best.

Chris Resop for closer? Nah.

surprised u already know the roation for the upcoming season. i guess you must have a source or something.

but i dont think we are going to follow up dontrelle and josh with 3 no-names. whose to say we dont trade delgado and get a pitcher and a hitter for him.

or how about these free agents

Paul Bryd

Shawn Estes

Jason Johnson

Joe Mays

Matt Morris

Jamie Moyer

Vicente Padilla

Kevin Millwood

Mark Redman

Bret Tomko

Jarrod Washburn

Jason Weaver

Woody Williams

Jamey Wright

I know some of these names arent the brightest fish in the sea but Id pick any of these over Johnson/olsen for now at least...

id take these guys...byrd impressed me during thje playoffs

padilla has good stuff..

millwood is solid #3 or 4 starter

Paul Bryd

Vicente Padilla

Kevin Millwood

Matt Morris

There's also guys like Kip Wells who will no doubt be moved by Pittsburgh purely for monetary reasons unless Mark Cuban steps up and buys the team before the arbitration period ends.

We should add Vicente Padilla. :thumbup

Josh

Dontrelle

Padilla

Vargas

Moehler/Johnson/Olsen

That's a pretty good rotation, no?

Those would all be good additions but those players are to expensive for our taste... I say:

Beckett

Willis

Moehler

Vargas

As for the 5th starter I would like to see Johnson. I have a feely the Fish are going to make a bid for Redman again and I think he will be our 5th guy. Although im not to high on redman what can you do.. we have a limited payroll... Either way throughout the course of the season you know that the rotation will go through its mixes... Im hoping the kids get a shot to shine for real!

I think I may be sick. :banghead

LOL!!

If that makes you sick how about this report... Marlins are iterested in bring back Braden Looper

LOL!!

I actually think there's some merit to the idea depending how he's used.

Paul Byrd will be a Marlin in 2006... I'm calling it now!

1. Willis

2. Beckett

3. Byrd

4. Vargas

5. Johnson

Moehler in place of Olson and you got a deal

I would first test Olsen for the first 3 actual desisions. I like Moehler in the BP, we need a strong BP this year and Moehler just seems to let leads slip away like nothing in the rotation, do you remember that 2nd dodgers game in that 4 game set? 3-0 in the first inning, the last time we blew somthing like that was against the Giants when a slumping D-Train was on the mound. Moehler could play about 2 innings in the BP, and we could slip in Looper as a Closer. We could even bring back Messenger aswell.

I actually think there's some merit to the idea depending how he's used.

FULL TIME CLOSER

You really think so?? Im not sure but will see what happens...

ugh....no Byrd...no Padilla.

Not a bad rotation but, there's too much to lose by pitching two rookies and one almost rookie. I wouldn't mind one or the other, just not both. Speaking of Olsen any news on his elbow?

1. Beckett

2. Willis

3. Millwood/Washburn/Byrd/Buerhle

4. Vargas

5. Olson

A three rookie starting rotation is big gamble. Especially in the later months when the pitchers begin to rack up IP totals they never have. You could have three dead arms in the rotation come September. Plus, having 3 guys competing for 2 spots is good for all 3 pitchers.

I agree with Fritz and his plan for the rotation. Especially if you guys want to compete come the later months for a postseason berth.

Oh and no Moehler and no Valdez. Moehler would be a perfect long relief/6th starter type guy. The thought of him or Ish in the rotation doesn't entice me.

I would love for us to find a way to get Wells from Pitt, he would do great in our ballpark.

1. Willis

2. Beckett

3. Wells

4. Vargas

5. Olsen/ Johnson (whoever wins it out of spring training)

somehow get it done Beinfest

Tony Armas, Jr.

He didn't have a good season or series of seasons due to injuries and unsupportive manager and defense. But he'll be available for cheap and has a lot of talent - more of it realized than Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen or Logan Kensing. Remember, quality depth is a good thing.
