August 21, 200323 yr Cabrera is our future. He has done nothing really this season to hurt our Wild Card chances (only better it). He's cheaper than Sanders, and he is getting valuable playing time. Sanders, for all we know, may have sucked playin for us. Needless to say, don't try sounding smart by looking back at players we could have gotten. Hindsight is 20/20.
August 21, 200323 yr i mean, how much better could our record be with Sanders in there instead of Cabrera? probably none, because Cabs is on FIRE
August 21, 200323 yr but Sander could have hit 2 HRs for us last nite! Then the score would have been.....9-5?
August 21, 200323 yr i mean, how much better could our record be with Sanders in there instead of Cabrera? probably none, because Cabs is on FIRE Probably not with Sanders over Cabrera, but Sanders would be a HUGE upgrade over Encarnacion. If the Marlins can get him or Matt Stairs from Pitt, they need to do it right now.
August 21, 200323 yr Matt Stairs over Enc in RF? Absolutely! Stairs OPS is about 200 points higher than Encarnacion's, and the Marlins lack a serious LH power threat. If defense is the problem, then put Cabrera in RF and Stairs in LF. Pierre should be able to cover up for Stairs' shortcomings.
August 21, 200323 yr Que Pasa? Matt Stairs is horrible and past his prime, which he never had. And he is a HORRIBLE defender on top of that.
August 22, 200323 yr Matt Stairs is horrible and past his prime, which he never had. And he is a HORRIBLE defender on top of that. Matt Stairs is currently putting up a .950+ OPS with Pittsburgh. That doesn't sound "past his prime" to me. Lenny Harris is past his prime. Stairs could actually contribute. With a 200 point OPS edge over Encarnacion and Gold-Glove-caliber defense in CF, Stairs' defense really doesn't matter.
August 22, 200323 yr There aren't many right fielders I would take over Juan Encarnacion. Out of these RFs who would you take Encarnacion over? Bobby Abreu Jeromy Burnitz Jose Cruz, Jr. J.D. Drew Shawn Green Vlad Guerrero Richard Hidalgo Austin Kearns Magglio Ordonez Sammy Sosa Gary Sheffield Ichiro Suzuki Admin Walker I wouldn't take Encarnacion over a single one of these guys, and that's just starting RFs.
August 22, 200323 yr All except Cruz Jr. Burnitz and Drew and Kearns You're serious!?!? You would take Encarnacion over Austin Kearns??? You could argue Cruz, Jr. or Drew (injuries only), but taking him over Kearns is just crazy. I don't get taking him over Burnitz, either. Other than that 1 bad season he had last year with the Mets and his 2nd year back in '94, Burnitz hasn't had a bad (or even mediocre) season in his entire MLB career.
August 22, 200323 yr All except Cruz Jr. Burnitz and Drew and Kearns I hope this is because Kearns is out for the year and not becuase you think Juan is the better player when both are healthy.
Matt Stairs has had limited action this year with only 220 some odd at bats. Look at his numbers for hte past 4 years. Not that stellar. I dont want him. This month his OPS is .806 Now that he is playing full time....expect his numbers to decrease.
August 22, 200323 yr If we have gotten this far with our guys, why replace them with guys have not done anything for this team? It ain't broke, so don't fix it.
August 22, 200323 yr Burnitiz is playing left field right now..... Here are your regular starting right fielders in baseball more or less ..... Bobby Abreu Jeromy Burnitz (except for this year) Jose Cruz Jr. JD Drew Jermaine Dye (althougth not playing regularly these days) Juan Encarnacion Jay Gibbons Shawn Green Vlad Guerrero Jose Guillen Richard Hidalgo Aubrey Huff Austin Kearns Bobby Kielty (I think) Xavier Nady Trot Nixon Magglio Ordonez Tim Salmon (although more a DH these days) Reggie Sanders (also can be listed in left) Gary Sheffield Sammy Sosa Ichiro Michael Tucker Admin Walker NOw I realize I missed a couple of names...but they are predominatly lesser players.... Out of this list....Juan is middle of the pack. He is an average right fielder with the bat, above average defensively. You cant have all stars at every position.
August 22, 200323 yr If we have gotten this far with our guys, why replace them with guys have not done anything for this team? It ain't broke, so don't fix it. Exactly,If we are winning then changes don't need to be made. Even If we just got swept in COL we are still playing good baseball. We are right on top of the WildCard race. The Marlins can win with what they have.
August 25, 200323 yr You can replace Michael Tucker with Aaron Guiel, because Tucker is out. And out of all the names on that list, the only ones who are worse than Encarnacion are: Tucker Kielty (who's really more of a platoon player w/ Frank Catalonotto and Reed Johson) Dye Nady He's not even middle-of-the-pack. Check his career numbers against Cruz, Jr. Cruz is clearly a better player.
