December 5, 200520 yr I was at the mets board. I think we got a pretty good pitcher by the sounds of these fans http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp...=146801.1&ctx=0 Many think he has more potential then Petit, is it possible Beinfest has done it again? 146801.7 in reply to 146801.5 i am not a guy who rants and sh*t on these boards. never. but this is absolutely terrible. how can you trade gaby hernandez? they JUST traded petit, who i don't think will be as good as gaby. at least it's to the marlins, where we can see UP CLOSE how goddam stupid this trade is. :lol
December 5, 200520 yr Just because it's a good prospect in the Mets organization doesn't change the fact that he was still a third round pick. Still, he's a young kid, a local guy with a good head on his shoulders and he appears excited to be here. I like the trade for both sides, actually.
December 5, 200520 yr Can't say how good this trade was for the Mets until Molina and Hernandez sign. I'm leaning towards it was a good trade for the MEts.
December 5, 200520 yr All fans think there particular prospects are excellent. Ex: The Orioles I disagree. When players are usually traded, fans usually like to put the boot into their players and talk them down to make the opposition teams fans think they've got a crap deal. This is an obvious exception because Hernandez is a stud in the making.

December 5, 200520 yr after the draft within a year or two, spot drafted in doesnt really mean all that much, especially when there are very many factors taken into consideration when drafting a player. in fact i really dont care much other than for historical comparasions of where a player was taken after year 2 in professional baseball at the latest. once you get into a system the important thing is how you develop into a pro that determines what you do, not really draft position by and large.
December 5, 200520 yr I personally think the Mets won the deal. They either could have done the Lo Duca trade, or ponied up the cash to sign either Ramon Hernandez or Bengie Molina. We didn't have any of those options except dumping Duke. I also just don't like losing arguably the best NL veteran catcher to a division rival. It's bad enough that I get to see Delgado all over SportsCenter in a Mets uni.
December 5, 200520 yr Regardless of your emotional reasons for liking Lo Duca, the guy is a horrible defensive catcher that makes up for it with mediocre numbers. His OPS was around .700 this year which is unacceptable for someone like JP, much less someone that's not a leadoff hitter. Get over it. He's not that good and his "lockerroom presence" isn't worth $6 million per season.
December 5, 200520 yr Having seen Gaby up close and personal when he was in high school down here dominating my former high school in a playoff push...Gaby has got good stuff, but he is no-where near MLB ready...he still needs 2-3 years of seasoning...I think come 09 when the Marlins have Volstad, Petit and Hernandez in the rotation they will be good again
December 5, 200520 yr Mets fans can shove it up their ass. :lol :lol :lol That's a bit of an overreaction if I've ever seen one. :lol :lol :lol
December 6, 200520 yr Hernandez and Molina are worth every million they make over a 34yo catcher who is all reputation, whether it be his 20 HR year 5 years ago, his first half numbers, his veteran presence behind the plate or his role as representative of the true blue Dodgers. We got Gaby and someone else. I think some people are just voicing their frustrations that the trade had to be made or that we received another pitcher.

December 6, 200520 yr my brother and I were in the same school as him and we knew him, he lead our high school team to states. The guy was awsome here. Im currently on the JV team and i see him working out at our facilities.

December 6, 200520 yr Of course they are angry they got fleeced when they didn't have to. All of a sudden a lot of the Met fans are off the Omar Minaya love boat...
