December 17, 200520 yr Patterson will probably get arbitration since it seems they're looking at him as the right-field answer. If he's non-tendered, I'd be for it, but only if his price-tag is reasonable. I think he'd blow-up if given a change of scenery in a good environment, but I don't know if Dolphin Stadium would be a good environment.
December 18, 200520 yr Olsen and Petit for for Gomes and Gathright Stop this love affair with Petit. We have a bunch of other guys just like him with as much talent: Johnson, Nolasco, Vargas, Pinto (if his control improves), West, Hernandez, etc.... And then we have guys better than him: Sanchez, Olsen, Willis, Volstad, etc... I'm merely saying what would improve the deal should something like that be true. Wrong. Petit has better stats then all of them. Lower whip, lower era, higher K/9. Petit is the best prospect they have besides Hermida. Johnson is nowhere in the same ballpark, neiter is Nolasco, Pinto, and West (to early). Vargas and Gaby are two of the best 5 they have. They would be similar, but not with Petit's upside. As for the rest, Sanchez would rank behind Petit and ahead of Vargas and Gaby, Olsen is not better then Petit, Anibal, Vargas, Dontrelle, and Gaby, and Volstad is to early to tell. All of this is wrong. The love affair everyone has with Olsen, should be with Petit. He is the best pitcher in the organization besides Dontrelle. I do like the idea of us getting two outfielders to plug in and assembling a young core that grows together. But it's hard to imagine them trading Petit. My logic is that we paid high for him as he was the centerpiece to the Delgado trade. He clearly has dominating stats without the dominating "stuff". Whatever your thinking is, Admin B clearly believes in him and views him as one of our top 3 pitchers. So why trade him to someone else who will be using the "lack of stuff" to downgrade him in a trade. I could see an Olsen/Johnson combo. But if we believe Petit is legit, then we need to let him prove the scouts wrong and let him play for us. And if nothing else, it will be fascinating to see how someone with such dominating numbers fares well. I know its ridiculous to even compare, but i bet alot of scouts didn't think The Bulldog would do well in the majors what with his 88-90 mph fastball. *For the record, I think very highly of Olsen and don't want him traded. But I also know we really, really need a good/great CF. And if Admin believes in the tampa kid, then i will drink the CoolAid and believe. And i know we have enough pitchers to offset Olsen. But if i'm a GM of another team and I see the Marlins willing to trade Olsen I start calling. I still can't believe there isn't more of a sure thing young CF for the or one of the top LHP prospects in the game. I trust you Admin. If you pull the trigger I will root for this guy, but Olsen is a high price for anyone.

December 19, 200520 yr I understand that this rumor has life due to the Marlins efforts to get it done, but I honestly don't think that this one will happen. Yes, I believe that they very likely will get Gathright, but it's hard to see them land Gomes as well without the fish giving up somethingvery significant. If the Marlins can get this done by giving up only 2 pitchers that aren't their # 1 prospects, then they need to go for it. Truthfully, I don't think that the D-Rays are stupid enough to do that. Essentially they would be giving up a potential top-tier leadoff hitter and a potential mid-30 HRs power hitter for pitchers that haven't had true chances to show that they can live up to their potential. Also, it would involve dealing with a GM that has a history that shows the shrewdness to ripoff a thief that is laughing at him. Realistically, if the Marlins get Gomes along with Gathright, I think that it may involve including Willingham and 2 pitchers, with 1 of those pitchers being a lesser prospect. Just a thought. If it happens, this is how I put the lineup together. CF-Gathright SS-Ramirez 3B-Cabrera 1B-Jacobs LF-Gomes RF-Hermida C-Willingham (if he isn't part of the deal) or some other warm body. 2B-Andino, Wilso, or whatever warm body is put here. If they pull this off and have this type of lineup, I will return to my 75+ wins prediction. The lineup will be more balanced than last years disappointment. Then it will be left up to the pitching.
December 19, 200520 yr What would probably happen is Hermida would switch to left and Gomes would play right where he performed well last season. For some reason he had real problems in left.
December 19, 200520 yr CF-Gathright C-Willingham (if he isn't part of the deal) or some other warm body. LF-Hermida 3B-Cabrera RF-Gomes 1B-Jacobs SS-Ramirez 2B-Andino, Wilson, or whatever warm body is put here. Not a bad lineup at all. Our 2-6 will be pretty damn good, if you ask me. High OBP for both Willy and Hermida... perfect right in front of Miggy, Gomes, and Jacobs.

I would flip it like this instead CF Gathright LF Hermida 3B Cabrera (so he gets extra AB in 3rd over 4th) RF Gomes 1B Jacobs C willingham SS Ramirez 2nd to be determined

High OBP for both Willy and Hermida... perfect right in front of Miggy, Gomes, and Jacobs. Could end up being that way. The reason that I put Cabrera hitting 3rd instead of Hermida is because since he is undoubtedly our best hitter and through the course of a season he would get more plate appearances from the 3rd hole instead of the 4th hole, which we definitely want. It amounts to aproximately 50 more plate appearances while batting 3rd instead of 4th. Since he may be walked a ton this season, until someone behind him earns respect, at least he will be an extra man on base for the times that Jacobs, Gomes, or Hermida burn someone. Later on, after one of the others establish that respect, then definitely I move Cabrera to 4th for the big game impacting bombs. Either way, I think that both of our lineups will do well and in all likelihood, until everything comes together, we may see both along with many others. I hope that the fish can make this deal. It certainly will make this season intriguing to say the least. It certainly will be alot more fun than people are thinking, especially when they reach the second half of the season.
