QUESTION:

Who would be in favor of flopping Jacobs for Choi?

Not me sir.

Phillips cant throw out runners. Treanor isn't good either, but people could run all day on Phillips. Their CERA are relatively equal.

Assuming for a moment your question wasn't tongue in cheek, I don't think any of us saw enough of Jacobs to make anything other than a guess. He could be another Franceour or Hermida or he could be out of baseball by September. Besides, unless it was a three team deal, the Dodgers don't need another first basebaman.

Rephrase:

Who would you rather have Choi or Jacobs?

Since the trade obviously wouldn't happen as a 1 for 1.

I'd personally rather have Jacobs. But it's hard to say right now, Choi has been really inconsistent and Jacobs could turn out the same.

But right now Jacobs put up some great #'s last season, and seems like the safer bet.

Jacobs appears to have more upside, both defensively.

Gonna have to disagree with you there.

Of these three: Choi, Delgado, Jacobs; Jacobs had the worst fielding percentage (.984) and a lower range factor than Choi (10.29 to 9.42).

I don't know who I'd go with, but it sure makes for a fun debate.

For the record, I think Choi can be a monster at the bottom third of a lineup given regular playing time.

The main difference at this point though is Jacobs is a top prospect and Choi is a failed major leaguer.

come on now

failed?

Let's see how Jacobs is doing after a year with Perry Hill.

I remember vividly watching Choi's first ST game with the Marlins. He was atrocious and had difficulty with the routine grounders. Perry helped him tremendously, although he still looked somewhat clumsy. Perhaps he's improved further since being with the Dodgers.

Well he will be 27 before the seasons starts and is a career .240 hitter that is considered to have several holes in his swing and limited success against lefties.

and yet he has put up some pretty good power numbers in very limited at bats, as well as the ability to get on base

~Choi sucks because he was supplanted by a former superstar?

~Willingham sucks since minor league stats don't often translate to future success and he can't play defense because he can't play catcher?

~We should give up superior pitching prospects since we have so many of them.

Spike, I was going to try to psycho-analyze you, but then I realized you're just stupid.

During or after their rookie years, yes. Three years of service time and stunted development thanks to Dusty, Jack and Jim, no.

I don't know how Choi got the impression of being a poor defender. Unless it was by Marlins fans comparing him to Derrek Lee. He was considered a good defender as a Cubs prospect and Dodger and I thought as a Marlin. He even had a good zone rating and fielding percentage with the Marlins.

I never really said Choi sucks. What I was saying of him being a "failed major leaguer" was what I was thinking what a scouts perspective would be, as a 27 year old .240 hitter.

I never really said Willingham sucks, maybe once or twice, I moreso just said I dont think he is a sure bet when some think he is the second coming.

As for giving up superior pitching prospects since we have so many....when have I ever said that? The only pitcher I've really been in favor of getting rid of was Mitre. I am firmly against getting rid of Olsen and Johnson, and dont really want to get rid of Hernandez, Nolasco, Tyler, Petit, or Sanchez unless the price is extremely right. That last comment was you quoting me on things I've never even suggested.

And I've said the price the D-Rays are asking for Gathright is outrageous and the most we should give up for him is Mitre.

Whats your fascination with Choi juanky? Nothing against it, just wondering.

(where you one that was upset when he was traded in 04?)

Yeah, I have random players that I like. He was one of them. My best friend even gave me his jersey for my birthday in 04 :lol

I'd only choose Choi for sentimental reasons. I've never seen Jacobs play but he's contributed quite a bit at the Major League level in the chance he's gotten. Plus he's cheaper for longer and can step into the middle of the lineup now.

jacobs has hit at every level...might turn out to be a bust but his ceiling is higher then choi...choi was fun to watch when he made contact but jacobs has always hit over 300...he is our present and future 1st baseman

Obviously you haven't been a fan of the team for long.

Stokes was tried in left-field because Adrian Gonzalez wasn't athletic enough to play the outfield and he (Gonzalez) was considered defensively superior at first-base. Stokes in the outfield didn't go so well, and we picked Stokes as our first-baseman of the future (great call there).

He isn't moving, I'd rather move Jacobs, and that's assuming Stokes is major league ready (which he really isn't).

Not everybody has the luxury of reading the PBP, Sun Sentinel, or Herald everyday. The team is going to stink next year anyway, so I see no reason not to try different things out. Jacobs is more important to us right now than Stokes, so why screw around with Jacobs?

Speaking of Gonzalez, funny to see him dealt again today along with Chris Young (former Princeton basketballer and a pretty decent pitcher). Adam Eaton is no Jake Peavy and it looks like the Rangers are making another stupid mistake overpaying for pitching.

I'd like to give Jacobs a shot... Granted, he won't hit 11 HRs every 100 ABs, but Id like to see what he can do in a full season

Not that I really care what the guy who had a joy filled aneurism when Castillo was traded ...

In fact I was unhappy that Castillo had to go. I was unhappy to see most of the trades happen.

But I was being realistic when the first shoe dropped, that Castillo's salary over the next two seasons made it obvious he'd be traded. I don't think you can find a post in which I demeaned Castillo the ballplayer or the man, it was just economics.

Why in god's name did Choi just sign with the Dodgers for 750K after they picked up Nomah? He'll never play now, & he could've at least tested FA...

Because it's not his choice, Dodgers just signed him to trade him (or, at least I'd assume they did).

He's used to it?
