Fish4Life
The Mets and Devil Rays are close to finalizing a trade that would send closer Danys Baez to New York. The New York Post is reporting that the Mets would ship either pitcher Jae Seo or pitcher Aaron Heilman to Tampa Bay, likely along with another player and/or cash. Baez would obviously become the setup man for Billy Wagner, and the fantasy world would lose a pretty decent closer. Back in Tampa, the Rays would have a new starter in their rotation, and the closer's role would likely be open for competition come spring training. Mark
Good move for the Rays. They already have a pretty good future closer in Tampa.

Iowa
The Mets are stupid Heilman was one of the better relievers in baseball last year... is Baez even an upgrade? Plus Heilman gives them flexibility as he can spot start for them as well.
TSwift25
And Seo was probably their second best rotation pitcher last season behind Pedro.

Guest Juanky
Man, if the Rays leave Heilman in the pen they'll have quite the studly duo there.
Mets_bs
And Seo was probably their second best rotation pitcher last season behind Pedro. Tom Glavine and a sub 2 era? Seo doesn't even have a rotation spot, he's way too streaky. If it's Seo + prospect it's a GREAT deal. It's a wash if it's for Heilman. Shaq-Man
holy cow did the Rays make out like bandits here--provided this is for real, or course. A reliever coming off of a flukey season for one solid, cheap starter and change? nice!!

My apologies I rushed through my post, Glavine put up a sub 2 ERA over the same period as Seo, a sub 3 ERA in the 2nd half, and a strong season all around. Seo wasn't our 2nd best starter, 3rd or 4th at best. A reliever coming off of a flukey season for one solid, cheap starter and one solid, cheap reliever/starter? good lord!!! And the trade is for Seo OR Heilman and reportedly Brian Bannister a decent AAA pitcher.

Fishfan79
sorta funny in a way though you know? this is why the drays believe they can always hold out. Because no matter how many no's they get... there is always the mets
The_Punisher
Man the Mets sure as hell are putting up a power house team. This trade is a great one for the Mets. But they still need starting pitching. After Pedro it's garbadge.
Passion
Someone post a list of all the people the Mets have acquired this off-season. They could probably field a team just based on new additions this one off-season.

Marlins R #1
Hold on.... The Rays are giving up one of the best relief pitchers in the game IMO for just Aaron Heilman OR Seo. If that's true then why the f*** would ask that we give up Olsen for Gathright. It just doesn't make sense.
Mets_bs
Update on the deal: Jan. 2, 2006 - 10:55 pm et Two officials familiar with the talks told Newsday that the Mets are moving closer to acquiring Danys Baez from the Rays, perhaps for Jae Seo, Kaz Matsui and cash. We find it hard to believe Baez would come that cheap. Even if the Rays would only be only responsible for $2.5 million of the $8 million he's set to make, Matsui shouldn't be viewed as a valuable part of any deal. formerbatboy03
IF Baez is moved, its to baltimore. seo was traded today and the rays would be better off getting jorge julio from Baltimore mets and baez wont be in the same sentence come this season. The only other player the D-Rays would want in return for Baez (along with Matsui) would be Heilman, and there's no way the Mets would give him up now that Seo's gone.
