Reggie Sanders Claimed by LA.

Seems Like The Pirates will Pull him back and try to work a trade....

Right now our Only Options are:

Conine

Bautista

Stairs

Vanderwal possibly

Abe Nunez

Gerald Williams

Brian Banks

Todd Hollandsworth (on DL)

I think we need to atleast ONE bat that has cleared waivers...

Not Vanderwal he is a career bench player...I have posted many times why Conine is the best option even before Sanders was claimed.

why would LA claim Reggie? are they that unhappy with Burnitz? did one of their OF's go down last night?

Maybe they did it just to block one of the other Wild Card contenders, like us, from getting him.

It's gonna come down to conine :w00t ,stairs :D ,vanderwal :)

You do know that Jeff is banged up? Plus the making the transition between league at the end of the season isnt going to be a cake walk.

Excellent point. They probably only did it so the Marlins could not get him.

PS: F the Dodgers :angry

Los Angeles claims Sanders off waivers

Sunday, August 31, 2003

By Robert Dvorchak, Post-Gazette Sports Writer

Outfielder Reggie Sanders has been claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Pirates have until midnight tonight to work out a trade or recall the waivers.

General Manager Dave Littlefield did not confirm or deny the waiver claim or even if Sanders had been placed on waivers -- "Those are things we don't talk about," he said -- but he acknowledged that teams are still expressing interest in his players.

Although waiver deals can be made through September, no player obtained after midnight tonight is eligible for playoffs. The Dodgers, who have the National League's worst offense, inquired about Sanders before the July 31 non-waiver deadline, but the Pirates were said to be asking too much in return.

Although the Dodgers trail the San Francisco Giants by a double digit margin in the West Division race, they are in the thick of things for a wild card. They would love to add Sanders, who leads the Pirates with 29 home runs and has driven in 72 runs, to play against left-handers down the stretch.

Pirates Manager Lloyd McClendon said yesterday he would be surprised if a deal were made "unless somebody's going to knock our socks off. I don't see us just giving players away."

Sanders, 35, has played for six different teams. He has been the most productive free agent acquired by the Pirates in the off-season.

"He's still got a lot of baseball left," McClendon said.

hmm...

The Transition between the AL and the NL is the only down side(Its not a huge transition anyway.)...You know that out of canadates to be claimed he is the best way to go. He can aid in the Long Run while no other player available can(Replacing Lee) he also is a better soloution financial wise. He's 39 he's playing just as good as he was 6 years ago if not better. He's a solid player to provide veteransip and a player with post-season experience.

You can't go wrong with him.

I really believe that switching leagues will not be that big of a deal for Conine because of interleague and he's played in both leagues. Some people are saying bring up Nunez or Williams to fill the LF spot. Don't you think the guys from AAA would have to make more of adjustment to major league pitching than conine would have to do just switching leagues? I truely believe Conine is the best option.

Conine switched from the AL to the NL when he joined the Marlins, remember?

was it during the season? and im positive it wasnt during the last month of the season.

Shamrock, it doesn't matter when, the thing is he did it. He ha splayed many years in both leagues and if you look at his interleague numbers, they are about the same as his regular NL numbers.

He was picked up in the expansion draft I believe or signed as a free agent. It wasn't in mid-season. But since inter-league play has began it's been more of an easy transition. Jeff's played in the NL before he has faced many NL pitchers.

Hes coming back today from right bicep brusitus...Dont know what that is...He is also playing 1B.

I checked out his win shares and he ranks 4th in hitting and 4th in fielding among AL 1B. I'd say hes closer to average with the glove in the OF then good.

Jeff Conine (BAL) - Back off the DL (bicep bursitis) and a red-hot 10-for-23 in his first six games back.

Vanderwal is still my option. He is just a great hitter and was a very good pinch hitter with the pirates.

Klesko was available i dont know about now but if he is available then i would have to go with him.

Is Klesko available?

I thought of Klesko, and quickly reminded myself that they already traded their expendable OFer in Rondell White...
