The story is this. A group of college students got together and decided to hold I-285 traffic to the posted speed limit. (I-285 makes a complete circle around Atlanta.) The Atlanta Journal quotes a spokesman for the DOT as saying that if the students weren?t blocking emergency vehicles and were going the speed limit, ?they didn?t do a thing wrong.? He added, ?In Atlanta? we expect the people going 75 to move over so the people going 95 can have the right of way.?

 

I?m very familiar with I-285, having travelled it thousands of times. If you do 55, you are risking your life. If you do what traffic is doing, you are subject to a ticket. So what?s a person to do? This will generate some great discussion!

I disagree with what they did. And it isn't civil disobedience if they don't break any laws.

On second thought, maybe what they did isn't even allowed. Shouldn't you give the right of way to other cars, even if they are going over the limit?

I think what they did is stupid but the rules in place are even stupider. Seriously, giving tickets to people for following the flow of traffic, when reasonable, is so asinine.

 

Also, didnt Florida just say they are going to give tickets out to people going 10 mph over on I-75 near Gainesville?

Speeding tickets should only really be given to people who are greatly endangering other drivers. It's impossible to go the speed limit and expect to live on the turnpike/Sawgrass expressway.

Just a stereotype us engineering majors have towards you guys...seems every business major we know here at FIU always has a sh*tload of free time. Heck, my friend is a business major, now he has two majors and a minor, and he works. You would never sleep doing that in Engineering.

In high school, my friends did this on I-95, only they went with the MINIMUM speed limit the whole time...so 40 mph. I found the whole thing disgusting. Sometimes 10 or 15 minutes can make a huge difference in someone's life.

I also think it's quite hypocritical when people slow down because they spot a police officer in their rear view window, thus forcing everyone else to slow down.
