September 8, 200323 yr Sign Castillo to a 1 year deal , and Lee to 4-5 years and if Castillo doesnt like it the door is always open :: Waves:: Huh? :confused Did you read the article? I doubt Castillo would settle for a one year deal after those comments. As for Lee he knows he is gone after this year.
September 8, 200323 yr Trade Conine He is 37 And keep DLee! And Luis And Pudge And Lowell! Lee = $8 Mill Conine = $4 Mill I'll take Conine. Lee will never succeed in Pro Player. Let him leave for his sake, so he can put up the numbers we know he's capable of (away from the Pro). If we CAN keep Castillo, I'm all for it, but I see him in a Met uniform next year. As much as I love the guy, I want Castro starting. I'm way too excited to see how he will succeed. Lowell is a given. You must be the biggest idiot in this board if you take Conine ( an old fart , that done nothing here ) over Lee. Defense - Lee Power - Lee Speed - Lee Younger - Lee Better Range at 1B - Lee Contact - Conine Homeruns - Lee RBI - Lee Avg - Conine More $$ - Lee Marlins should keep - Lee Castillo in Mets ? LMAO ! You rather have Castro than Pudge ? Now i know you the Marlins would never win

Didnt you read what i said ? If Castillo doesnt want another 1 year deal than bye , not like he a player we really need
September 8, 200323 yr from ESPN.com Marlins 2B Luis Castillo, who can become a free agent after the season, wants a multiyear deal. "This is my sixth year here on a year-to-year contract," he said. "Now I'm looking for a two or three-year contract. I don't want to go on like this." Castillo said he has not been approached by Marlins management to talk about his status. ... I'm surprised that he'd even mention a 2-year deal. I would think he's going to try for a 4-year deal, and then settle for 3 if he has to. Luis' agent may not be real happy with him right now. Luis' openness to a 2-year deal actually sounds like good news to me. If Luis really is willing to sign a 2-year deal, then sign him now.
September 8, 200323 yr You must be the biggest idiot in this board if you take Conine ( an old fart , that done nothing here ) over Lee. Stokes will be ready in a year or two.... Conine is a fine guy to hold down the fort until then
September 8, 200323 yr Author You rather have Castro than Pudge ? Now i know you the Marlins would never win. for this team & this budget, keeping Castro over Pudge is entirely reasonable. not only would Pudge cost them another 8-10 million next year, but he also is still owed 3 million next year from his current contract. all things being equal, of course anyone would rather start Pudge over Castro, but all things are not equal. --- what i think the policy of the FO will probably become is to not sign HUGE multiyear deals. i think they'd entertain maybe 3-year deals for a brad penny or a redman/pavano type at 3 million a year. deals like the 2-year six million deal for conine keeps them "fiscally responsible", "payroll flexible", "cheap", or however you want to take it. what they want to avoid are giant, escalating deals like Preston Wilson got. They're not giving Castillo or Derek Lee a 4 year 28 million contract. Especially with Castillo's hip flaring up this year. Most I can expect is a good deal for Lowell, but even then I assume they won't offer a ton for him. Something like 3 years at 20 million...
September 8, 200323 yr Author I think Admin should offer us low-salary deals but fill them up with incentives for when Fox or AOL buys this site. :thumbup
September 8, 200323 yr The bset way to go unless the FO wants to lose some major dollars is to: *Trade Lee..Conine replaces *non-tender Pudge..Castro replaces *non-tender Encarnacion unless we can get him for cheap *remember we will also be paying not only the deferred salary of Pudge the next 2 years, but the salary of Braves pitcher Hampton for 4yrs(?) *The payroll needs to stay below 60 million.
September 8, 200323 yr Pudge will probally stay. In recent articles he has said he wanted to stay. Derek is leaving for sure. Conine can replace his big salary and a better bat.
September 8, 200323 yr Jack Mckeon Said in a PB Post article today that he thinks if Castro had 100 AB's he would have 20 hr's....

Pudge has valuable years to go. Somehow I think he will be even better next year. (Wish I knew how the Castro criminal case will go.) Lee, one of my favorites, can go to a better park for him. Conine can cover for a year or so. Amazing how the guys who stay in shape can play into their late 30's. Sign Juan Pierre for ten years.

September 8, 200323 yr Castro's thrill: Backup catcher Ramon Castro, on his home run Saturday: "It's like a dream come true just to play here (for a) major-league team in front of my family. To hit a home run in my first at-bat, it is one of my best feelings ever.'' McKeon said he thinks Castro could hit at least 20 home runs if given the chance to have at least 100 at-bats. "The only thing he needs to do is get an opportunity to play. He should have his opportunity in the future somewhere, whether it's us or somebody else," McKeon said.
September 8, 200323 yr It has gotta be a misquote. Castro has 5 hrs, in 47 atbats. So if he has 470 atbats, he'll hit 50 hrs. Thats freakin awesome, especially for a criminal.
