Duke earns 3rd rotation spot

Mar 22 The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Paul Meyer reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Zach Duke has won the third spot in the rotation.

whyyyyyyy??? the 1 and 2 starters, Perez and Wells, both had ERA's over 5 last year!

Duke had a 1.81 ERA in his ROOKIE YEAR in 14 starts.

only logical reason is experience... but ... :thumbdown

Wells will be out until at least the ASB so it goes Perez, Duke, Maholm, Snell and a yet to be determined pitcher.

Burnett was optioned to AAA earlier this week and Van Benschoten won't be ready til May or so.

Vogelsong is out of the running for the 5th spot and has been demoted to the pen.

I see the Pirates rotation ending up like this:

Oliver Perez

Zach Duke

Ian Snell

Paul Malholm

Brandon Duckworth

Why was Burnett optioned?

Yea I beilve he was.... He will be back with the club in no time in my opinion...

I know that he was...my question is why.

They feel he needs more time to come back from his injury. They're looking longterm with him and trying to bring him along slowly.

Looks like Duke is gonna be number 3 in the rotation. Santos/Duckworth will battle for the number 2.

Read the thread again. Duke is third in the rotation.
