Herald article not so hopeful for Hialeah stadium

Festa, you are a true Marlins fan. Why the Blue Jay logo?

The Blue Jays bandwagon, baby!

my marlins brother festa just place the Texas boy on ignore. I have learned it is a good plicy for most folks in Texas and a few other places. When they come to a marlins fan sight and continue to state doom and gloom of a team leaving there. Blocking works wonders :)

Fans and their public officials ignoring the situation is what has forced the owners of the Marlins to seek out other options. Keep ignoring it and you'll have nothing. Sorry if the thought is painful to bear, but it's the truth. Want the Marlins in South Florida? Lobby your local politicians. Talk to your fellow citizens. Doing nothing but slighting the efforts of other markets does not help keep the Marlins in South Florida.

:plain who said anything about ignoring the situation? it's ignoring this annoying texas dude.

It's about ignoring threats to the Marlins' existence in South Florida, which members from Texas represent. JRTexas55 and some others have been damn right respectable members, giving no reason for any one to block unless they simply don't even care to recognize that another town may want the Marlins.

I have already written and spoken to my state reps before. But I live up in palm beach which isnt even really a consideration for the Fish sadly. Because if it was built up here there is no way they would draw close to what they need from miami (or what they wish). It is easier to draw from Palm Beach and the northern counties down then the southern counties up.

As for the ignoring. I just have the annoying guy set on ignore :) much better plan then ignoring the situation. Kill the messenger that repeats the same old BS again and again :thumbsup

I wasn't aware he was annoying. There's still more you can do, such as contact your local PB County officials to support a tri-county initiative to close the funding gap.

The only thing that concerns me is that no news, continues to be reported as news. One thing is if the mayor of Hialeah or the Bexar County Judge issues a statement, another thing is the respewing that either Hialeah or San Antonio's bids are not doing a thing. You cannot seriously believe that these two suitors will sit by and wait on the other.

Some people choose to ignore what they don't want to face. That's their right. Others write things in sanscript covering all bases so it's not clear where they stand. If I can read between the lines of what you say Ferry then you believe that it doesn't matter what the fans down here do. In the end, in your opinion, it will be MLB's decision, if I'm reading your writings correctly.

True, I don't think MLB is going to blink. That doesn't mean fans can't have some say in the matter though, but MLB will not be made to look like a fool.

Just reading in Sun Sentinel today that Homestead is seeking to be allowed to keep up to $2 million a year for 30 years in sales taxes (SB 494) generated in Homestead-Miami Speedway to help maintain and provide security at the venue, which hosts the season finale of the NASCAR Nextel Cup series, plus the legislature is providing up to 15 million a year to Spring Training sites. These are clse to passage. Why in the world could the Marlins not get this done last year, or do everything they could to try again this year. Makes us ask these question:

1) Why are the Marlins not back in Tallahassee this year?

2) Did Samson and Loria REALLY push for the passage of the tax rebate last year when if no stadium deal done before 5 Years they do not have to pay back the 30 mil loan to MLB?

3) Its obvious the lobbyists for Homestead and Spring Training sites have the power and Loria and Samson are clueless as to how to get things done politically in this state...How can they provide 2 mil a year back to a place with 2 events a year, but not to a team that places people in the stands spending $$ 81 dates a year?

Please sell the team to MLB, Latin Billionaires, or just anyone that actually has a dime in there pocket to come to the table with. Politicians like money, and wining and dining, and these two paupers are obviously offering only a dinner at Denny's. :-(

Gee, I didn't know Joe Arrio;a was posting on our website.

LOL...I will even laugh at that...Did sound a bit like Joe. I am just frustrated that the state will give Homestead the 2 mil, when the Marlins have been seeking it for years and could not get it done. If the state is in such a generous mood this year, why are we at least not back there trying? Worth the questions about these guys sincerity, considering 30 million is there if no deal done before 2007. No guarantees they would not be shut out again, but the old saying is true...Can't get anything unless you try.

Because Homestead and spring training host cities aren't threatening to not renew their lease with a powerful well-connected person and entity.

I haven't read about them willing to take on minority partners... anywhere. I read San Antonio wants them to. Not that the Marlins are very open to the idea.

Any prospective controlling owner must fall in line with Selig, Reinsdorf and their clique to get accepted into the hall of owners. Challenging the precedent of blackmailing municipalities for stadiums is not going to win them any friends.

Would that be the well connected person that has "reportedly" offered 50 million plus land to the Marlins to build a stadium in the most optimal spot? I sure wish we would hear the REAL other side of the story from the Marlins, but they have been pretty mum on that end. I am sure he wanted too much of the parking and/or gameday revenues, plus like I previously stated asked the team to come with at least a matching cash amount up front. I guess we will never know as he and the team say the deal is dead :-(

the Marlin owners said it was ok with that condition.

First of all, I can't find the article re: Homestead M.S. -- but Homestead is only asking for what the Marlins already have -- a $2 M exemption. The problem is that the Marlins' exemption is being horded by major league s***head Wayne Huzienga. The Marlins went to the Fla State legislature last year trying to get another $2M exemption and the State basically told them to pound sand.

Second, the Marlins ownership doesn't want to sell. Period. So let's come up with a new mantra, shall we?

Not what I read. San Antonio demanded minority owners (I assume this does not refer to Blacks or Hispanics but to owning less than 50% of the team) and the Marlin owners said it was ok with that condition.

I believe it was Samson who said they were fine with that. I believe Loria hedged around it and never really said whether he would or not, except that he was willing to do that before but no one stepped up. Or something like that.

A Marlins spokersperson said Samson would "encourage and expect to have" local ownership.

Thanks. A bit surprising... If they're willing to sell a chunk to SA local investors, why not sell a chunk to So. Fla. local investors if it gets a deal done?

Here is the Sun Sentinel brief on the Homestead and Spring Training Bill:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/flo...la-news-florida

I want any solution to keep the Marlins here in South Florida. MLB negotiated this deal to give the Marlins

to Samson and Loria in exchange for the Expos and a 30 Mil loan that does not have to be paid back if no stadium deal done within 5 years. Does that sound like 2 guys that should be negotiating to save our baseball team? I know we do not have a choice, but its very frustrating to all of us on this board and any fan of the 2 Time World Champions.

Good question. All Samson will say now is "we're not interested. Back when we came into the market we entertained the idea and no one offered." So what's that got to do with today?

Yeah, that's the offer I heard announced by that party through the media, with no one else privy to it was willing to announce their read of it. That suggests to me it wasn't a very good offer to the other member, perhaps not righting the Marlins' biggest grievance: unfair lease terms. If I'm trying to trade you a dime for a quarter, I'm going to do my damnest to change yours and everyone's mind that a dime is worth more than a quarter. We can expect nothing else from a person who has routinely screwed over the Marlins, refused to renegotiate the lease and holds the leverage over his negotiating party. Even if Huizenga were to be regarded as helpful, he's not giving anything away for free and the Marlins hold absolutly no leverage over him and could do nothing but say 'no'. If they were to react aggressively as you suggest they should (have) do(ne), the deal would be off and Huizenga would focus on his efforts on spurning the Marlins' other efforts more than ever. You don't entice the bully into a fight, you just try to get away with your lunch money and health.

exactly right. i agree with you 100%

And I know that Loria later said the team is not for sale, blah, blah, blah. But the minority ownership is a requirement and they are continuing negoatiation so draw your own conclusions. San Antonio is smart in making that requirement for local ownership.

Wheras I believe the city of Miami was demanding new controlling ownership, atleast the city manager was.

And prior to that the proposal to force the Marlins to cover cost overruns without controlling construction was to force the issue of changing ownership.
