March 29, 200620 yr who is Lenny blocking anyway? Hitter McHomerson? Johnny O Doubles? The many potential waiver claims that could be made towards the end of spring training. It'd be safe to say all would be more useful than Harris.Who? Who can we possibly throw in there that will make a large difference? Harris is the #1 PH right now, and he's last on the depth chart to come in to play defense which won't matter anyways because 9 times out of 10 he'll pinch hit for the pitcher somewhere in the 6th or 7th inning. Who replaces him that's of any value whatsoever?

Who replaces him that's of any value whatsoever? I'll tell you when they're waived. I'm optimistic this argument will be moot, though, as Lenny still isn't guaranteed a spot. Maybe they make him the coach. Once teams do their final cuts I'll give you a big list of everyone more useful. Who can we possibly throw in there that will make a large difference? Big difference? First off Harris will be taking ABs from players that could be better served getting them. Second, it doesn't matter the impact the player makes in the standings as Lenny being there probably isn't worth one win, and his value is probably slightly negative. We'd most likely replace Harris's slot with someone like Ambres or some other player with a decent upside and practical usefulness to the club. end of argument for me. Agree to disagree. :hat
March 29, 200620 yr My only question is why would we risk a youngsters production on 70 or so ABs this season? I'd like to think we wouldn't make that mistake. So that rules out any prospect getting the call, and instead sticking an AAAA guy in the role. Given the choice between Lenny Harris and a journeyman either from our system or who wasn't good enough to stick around on another team, I'll take Harris. Let Girardi decide which philosophy to take.

He'd be taking 70+ ABs from guys like Olivo, Aguila (when Willy in LF), Treanor (if he's carried), Reed (ditto). I never said those ABs were going to be stolen from someone like Stokes, who we'd carry as our 25th man. I know he's much better off playing everyday in AAA. I specifically mentioned someone like Chip Ambres in my argument who's not a AAAA guy, but a legit 4th OFer and useful player, although I'd much rather it be another middle infielder like Bynum/Ginter/Phillips with a shot at challenging Uggla if he bombs. Didn't want to continue the argument, but had to clear up some things lost in translation. I can give you a more complete list once final ST cuts are made, and I'd bet there will be some useful bodies lying around. Much more so than Harris anyhow. If you want him as a coach, he should be made one. Let Girardi decide which philosophy to take. I'll try not to influence him too much. :mischief
March 29, 200620 yr I'll drop it there per your request, since we have this discussion every year and we still haven't changed each other's mind. I will say, however, that I hope the Lenny hating continues because he did very well last year after an entire offseason of flame.
March 29, 200620 yr "Let Girardi decide which philosophy to take." What, exactly, is the Marlins philosophy? I know they are taking the cheapest route they can but even I am getting kind of disgusted. I figure if an owner can't afford to have real MLB players, then SELL THE TEAM and get out. Calling Dictator Selig....where are you???? Loria can't afford a MLB team. How about getting him to sell it to someone who can????

Seems like you've been disgusted for quite a while. Why don't you go root for the Yankees?

This team had such potential last year and was held back by an incompetent manager named McKean. I feel sorry for all these young kids. I just hope they aren't ruined in the process. This is a forum. I would think everyone is allowed to have an opinion even if you don't agree with it.
March 29, 200620 yr You feel sorry for the kids on the team??? I feel sorry for you. Have you ever posted something positive on this forum? You should be happy then since McKeon is gone. If you don't know the team's current philosophy you're not much of a fan. Try the Cubs - their philosophy looks pretty sound. They've been refining it for over 50 years. :plain
March 29, 200620 yr "Let Girardi decide which philosophy to take." What, exactly, is the Marlins philosophy? I'd rather not think about what the Marlins' FO employes as a strategy. As far as Joe's strategy, I'll let you know in a week :thumbup
March 29, 200620 yr It's good to see that Girardi & Beinfest appear to be on the same page. I think the difference in philosophies between Jack and Admin was a real detriment to last year's team. :thumbup

Calling Dictator Selig....where are you???? Loria can't afford a MLB team. How about getting him to sell it to someone who can???? Please pay more attention. This was a team going nowhere, attracting new fans or support for the ballpark. A change was made. A change that would have been made by any prospective owner Selig and his pals would allow to own the Marlins. On a somewhat related note, A herald article today (based on the opinion of three major league scouts from other teams who have observed the Marlins this Spring) called Uggla the worst starting defensive second baseman in the majors. Ouch! Louie where are you? The scouts also said that the players all love KFC. Can't be any worse than Easley, who actually would have been the worst had he qualified by enough innings

Right down to and including not knowing how to spell the manager's name who led this team to a World Series championship two seasons ago.

I do hope the Marlins do well. I really do but ... well never mind. I am just too stupid for this forum. I wish you all good luck and can't wait for the season to begin!! That's the only thing that really counts.
March 29, 200620 yr Marlins2003, I hope you're just picking on him, because it's a pretty much an established fact that McKeon (or how ever you want to spell it) that he (or your choice of gender pronoun) lost the team.
March 29, 200620 yr It sucks, but I think Treanor will be optioned to AAA because he has options left, and I don't think Olivo has any options. If it comes down to the catchers, I think they would send Treanor to AAA before they cut Olivo.
March 30, 200620 yr "Bump had off-season labrum surgery and wasn't 100% during his spring outings." This is a false statement. Not true...lies. Well he did have surgery last JULY but he worked his butt off and was in great condition. There is nothing worse than people who spread lies whether it's the front office OR people on a forum.
March 30, 200620 yr Willingham at catcher is a mistake. Runners advancing at will. they did the same with Piazza and he had a wondeful career
March 30, 200620 yr Willingham at catcher is a mistake. Runners advancing at will. Save that there is not reason to believe that from his performance. His footwork is good and his arm is strong. I think he may lead the league in passed balls though.
April 1, 200620 yr Eric Reed went 2-for-4 and stole his ninth and 10th bases of the spring on Friday. Unless the Marlins pick up an outfielder (Chip Ambres?), Reed appears set to win a reserve spot. He'd probably benefit more from playing regularly in Triple-A, especially since he's missed significant time the last two years, but it's not all that likely he'll become a quality regular anyway From rotoworld.com
