Commentary

*Starting Lineup*

-Guys that should be locked in all season long...Ramirez, Cabrera, Hermida, Jacobs

-Willingham will probably catch 4 days and play left 2 days, while getting a good amount of rest to ease him into the rigors catching a full season.

-Treanor and Olivo will presumably share the catching duties 2-3 times per week, although one may either be traded or optioned to AAA...not really sure here. Probably the cloudiest situation at this time in spring training.

-Chris Aguila, while serving as our primary LFer will be used as a super-sub throughout the OF for Hermida/Abercrombie. Reggie may also be used in this function.

-Hermida definitely gets ABs against both handed pitchers the whole season, while Jacobs may see some platooning if he looks bad against lefties.

*Rotation*

-This part of the team, along with the bullpen will be a merry-go-round, except for stalwarts Jason Vargas and Dontrelle Willis. These 2 should finish the year with the most innings pitched.

-Moe and Mitre should be the first to find places in the bullpen somewhere around mid-season depending on their performances. This is an important step because it allows our up-and-coming pitchers some time to face lesser competition (Petit, Sanchez, etc) or in the case of Johnson and Nolasco, to get some lower pressure major league innings under their belt (ala MLou's example of Johan Santana). Moe and/or Mitre could be traded mid-season to a contender needing starting depth or long relief options.

-Expect nearly all of our upper-level pitching prospects to get rotation or bullpen looks at some point during the season and maybe 1-2 of them traded (allows for proper evaluation) for positions of need (2B, OF).

*Bullpen*

-Hopefully the veterans perform well and 1-2 get traded at mid-season for some useful parts clearing spots for our pitching glut at the top.

-I think Wellemeyer gets a long look at some point during the season and may even make the opening day 25.

-Again, the pen will be musical chairs.

*Bench*

-I hope we get one of Keith Ginter, Freddy Bynum, or Brandon Phillips to play behind Uggla. No Perez, please.

-I'd like to get Chip Ambres back (former Marlin farmhand). Plays all 3 spots well and a much better use of a roster spot than Lenny F'ing Harris.

-DONT GIVE LENNY HARRIS A BENCH SPOT.

Questions, comments, and snide remarks welcome. :mischief :hat

I'd guess one of the catchers is replaced by Wes Helms. I really don't want this team carrying both Treanor and Olivo so long as they still plan on having Willy catch a few days per week. I'd also rather not see Lenny, but I don't see Girardi jettisoning him. The final outfield spot will probably come down to whether they'd rather have Reed play everyday in ALB or come off the bench/split time with Reggie in the big leagues.

Other than that I agree with you, though I think Uggla and Aguila could be switched in the order and Johnson/Olsen in the bullpen/rotation. I'd rather see Olsen start, though.

I agree with you for the Most part... Mitre will be in front of Olsen in the rotation...

I disagree on the bench, Lenny will ge the spot because he is MR ALL TIME.. Helms will make it over Ambres

I'm pretty sure Wes Helms makes the roster :lol

I see a Helms, Olivo, Amezaga, Reed, and "unknown 2B they sign" as the bench. Hopefully a bat like Ginter.

whoops, knew I'd forget something. :mischief

No Harris?

Excellent rundown...

I really hope we acquire another infelder and outfielder. I see no value in having Almezega on the roster. I would much prefer Ginter, Bynum, and/or Phillips (no Perez) behind Uggla. I think Bynum gives us the most flexibility as he can play the outfield as well - a poor man's Chone Figgins.

As for Lenny - I have mixed feelings. He obviously is good at what he does but this might be the end of the line for him should a promising young outfielder be acquired (Gaithright).

The next few days should be very interesting.

Go Admin B...

Yeah, I'd definitely rather not carry 3 Cs, and I don't think we will really...

Your other points are certainly plausible.

I'd have to agree on Helms. Hard to believe if he isn't moved in the next 48 hours or so that he doesn't make the 25 man roster.

yeah, that was a mistake...

Wasn't Chip Ambres originally one of our prospects?

yessir.

his situation...

Chip Ambres - OF - Royals

Royals designated outfielder Chip Ambres for assignment.

Ironic that he's getting bumped to make room for Tony Graffanino, the player the Royals gave up to get him in a trade with Boston last July. Ambres was out of options, or he would have been kept on the 40-man roster. Since he could be a very good reserve at some point, the Royals should be hoping he clears waivers. They'll keep Aaron Guiel as a backup for now. Mar. 28 - 2:36 pm et

I've got to guess the "unknown 2B" would bump Amezaga therefore opening a spot for either Harris or Treanor.

anyone who wouldn't want the all-time best pinch hitter is crazy!

I love Lenny but he is finished, he is not what we need right now, we could easily hand those at bats to a young kid who can develope into one of our future pieces.

I would like to see Brandon Phillips.

Lenny haters. The guy hit very well last year, what's the fuss???

We know he hit well, but we need to rebuild, that spot needs to be reserved for a young guy that will be with us in the future.

No, they carry 4 middle infielders.

I say we just let D-Train pinch hit on off days. Isn't it in the rule book that a starting pitcher can't pinch hit in an American league home game?

Would Girardi be the kind to pinch hit a pitcher?

which brings a huge question, where will d-train hit during his starts?

Assuming Helms stays, and I am, keep in mind a small tidbit thrown out by Girardi the other day that he thought Helms was good enough to play second base of the occassion arose.

Just something to factor in.

And I do think Lenny stays.

Don't Ambers and Wellmeyer have to make the team since they are out of options?

I can't find any confirmation the Marlins have reacquired Chip Ambres.

If true, could someone post a link to the story?
