Posted March 29, 200618 yr ON TV As of Tuesday, Atlantic Broadband (which services Miami Beach and other areas), as well as DIRECTV and Dish Network, declined to pay an extra fee to carry 55 Marlins telecasts that are being moved from Pax-35 to FSN or Sun Sports. Those three entities are scheduled to air 95 of the Marlins' 150 TV games. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/14211289.htm However FSN Florida said something very differently to me about DirecTV and Dish Network: http://capefish.blogspot.com/2006/02/fsn-f...to-marlins.html I will re-pose the matter to FSN/Sun Sports for their comments.
March 29, 200618 yr Are you telling me that as it stands right now, DirecTV subscribers in South Florida will be missing 55 games this season???
March 30, 200618 yr Author Are you telling me that as it stands right now, DirecTV subscribers in South Florida will be missing 55 games this season??? Herald says so. An e-mail I got from FSN Florida says you would get all 150. DirecTV and FSN are both owned by News Corp. I think the Herald is blowing smoke. Any concerned subscribers should call DirecTV, Dish Network, or Atlantic Broadband.
March 30, 200618 yr Author I posted this on a DBS board: http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=61128 One other poster seems to agree the Herald is blowing smoke.
March 30, 200618 yr As we all know, the Herald isn't the most reliable for stuff like this. Some how, I really don't believe them.
March 30, 200618 yr Author FSN Florida indeed confirmed the Herald's story to me. Looks like they spoke too soon when it came to the DirecTV/Dish packages. http://capefish.blogspot.com/2006/03/fsn-g...sh-network.html This is going to piss many off, I am just one.

March 30, 200618 yr Does this effect OUT-OF-STATE MLB Extra Innings Subscribers? Will those customers still be able to catch all 150?
March 30, 200618 yr Author Does this effect OUT-OF-STATE MLB Extra Innings Subscribers? Will those customers still be able to catch all 150? DirecTV MLB EI - 95 games minimum via FSN Florida feed, rest would depend on other team's feed Dish MLB EI - 95 games minimum via FSN Florida feed, rest would depend on other team's feed InDemand MLB EI - all 150 games minimum via FSN Florida feed, could use other team's feed too. MLB.tv - all games with television somewhere The HEAT had a similar situation with then-AT&T Broadband when they refused to pay then-Sunshine Network for an extended package of HEAT games. However Dish/DirecTV didn't have any issues adding extra HEAT games when Sun Sports added the exclusive 70-game contract a few years ago. Hopefully an agreement will come soon.
March 31, 200618 yr I bet its a movement to make us go to the ballpark like the dolphins which is no sell out no game on cbs.
March 31, 200618 yr I bet its a movement to make us go to the ballpark like the dolphins which is no sell out no game on cbs. That's an NFL rule, I believe.
March 31, 200618 yr Author I bet its a movement to make us go to the ballpark like the dolphins which is no sell out no game on cbs. This is between FSN and the companies involved, not the Marlins or MLB. The NFL sellout rule is different. Baseball does not blackout games based on attendance.
March 31, 200618 yr Can you think of any rational reason why a company would pay extra to broadcast games in an empty stadium? I don't think so.
March 31, 200618 yr Author Can you think of any rational reason why a company would pay extra to broadcast games in an empty stadium? I don't think so. 1) Their competitors will have those games. 2) Those games have advertising revenues, small, but still there. 3) Those games will be missing from their Extra Innings packages. 4) They will have to pay sooner or later if they wish to keep any games. DirecTV, Dish skipping some Marlins games At present, DirecTV and Dish have not elected to take the additional 55 Marlins games beyond the 95 they carried last year. Negotiations continue. Update from Today's Sun-Sentinel
March 31, 200618 yr Thanks for this information. I intend to contact DirecTV both by phone and email as soon as I get home from work!
March 31, 200618 yr Author I hope they don't blackout the replays at least. I could always tape them and view them if the dispute is not resolved.

March 31, 200618 yr Author Right now those providers with only the 95-game package would not get: - All Sun Sports games - 10 FSN Florida games Add Time Warner Cape Coral as a 95-game provider.
