So MLB has not begun a study since the Marlins haven't asked for one. Sounds promising for the stadium issue in Florida to me.

The only reason I posted that is because it seemed like that comment meant good for Florida. I don't expect the Marlins to come here. In this instance, SA is just leverage. But the Marlins are also doing the footwork for other teams that might relocate, so this makes SA look better for other teams that might end up moving (A's, Twins, Royals).

All of which are highly plausible :mischief2 this also proves that San Antonio has the potential to be a MLB market, a notion many here immediately dismissed in the beginning. I have to admit, it completely suprised me, especially since this is before the whole "pep rally" meeting to increase support for the idea. It shouldn't have since it is apparently business leaders who are pushing this drive for a second major league team, but it did. I used to think MLB would stand no chance in San Antonio, just a couple months ago in fact, but I certainly think it at least has a fighting chance now after hearing the excitement when people talk about it and how everybody seems to be responding...
March 31, 200620 yr you can look at it this way.... for all the numerous minor league football teams we had....they had crappy attendance and failed. NFL games come to San Antonio and the city goes crazy. See MLB coming as opposed to MiLB. Same story.

But the difference is that even when we were suffering through those second tier (at best) football teams/leagues, we got heavy doses of NFL. We've always been innundated with NFL coverage on the news, radio, etc. MLB just gets the occassional blips. Heck, Cowboys training camp gets more TV time in a day than the Astros going to the world series did in a week (probably an exaggeration). That's why I never really considered SA capable of MLB. I just never picked up an interest. I guess in reality it was just because no MLB team had successfully market the area to develop a fan base and encourage heavy news coverage.

It couldn't be elsewise since the "product" being talked about doesn't exist. Basically those companies have said they will rent suites for full seasons if SA gets a team and the stadium is built. It's as firm a commitment as can be made at this time. I'm sorry if you feel the title of the post had some nefarious purpose. I was attempting to pick up the tone of the article. And I expected people to read my comments after to figure out what I thought of it.

Well they cant actually sell the suites until a team were to come here, they basically already have tenative agreements to have half the suites leased. We get basically no baseball coverage, due to many factors... 1) Our media being lazy. 2) The Rangers and Astros not caring. 3) Not even having a true radio outlet for the Ranger or Astro games in San Antonio, and thats not even including the half ass coverage on Fox Sports net for the two teams. So its on many factors that there is no 'coverage' of baseball. You have to blame all parties...basically the local rag has determined that they dont need baseball coverage to sell papers, they use their cash cow the Spurs to do that.
