If we can get someone like Cano and a prospect then i'd do it..it wouldn't hurt to have an above average second baseman..and we can replace D-Train with one of our minor league pitchers..no need to sweat..Beinfest knows best.

just wondering what other prospects do you see new york having?

What's the stupid face for?..Look without Willis we would have a starting 5 of..Vargas,Mitre,Johnson,Olsen,Moehler..I don't see nothing wrong with that..As much as i like Dontrelle and all i think you should sell high now that he's kicking ass, because if later on he starts doing bad he's going to lose hella value and we're going to lose profit there..kind of like Lowell.

Hey what i'm trying to say here is that players drop as fast as they rise..and if you can get a good deal for Willis then do it and time will tell if it was worth the risk.

might as well trade Cabrera too

Wow Willis#1...if that trade happens, then Mitre is our #1...a guy that wouldnt even be in the rotation for about 29 other teams...and we are even more of a laughing stock to the average fan than we already are.

And Moehler as what...the #2. We want to win games, that means we dont give those 2 losers more starts than we have to.

:mischief Cabrera hasn't had a bad season yet..Willis had a 2.63 era last year (something like that) and the year before he had a 4.02..Cabrera has been killing pitchers since god knows when..even though he hit .268 his first year..hey whether you like it or not both of them will get traded in the next couple of years.

Beinfest always finds ways to make us better..anyways who cares we should all have the common sense to know that D-Train ain't going nowhere, the Marlins fans would be hella pissed. This is all just BS talk..P.S. i wouldn't mind Cano.

A 4.01 ERA in your second season in the bigs is nothing bad.

The Yankees can keep Cano and his big ass.

D-Train to the Yankees for a stadium 100% paid for by Steinbrenner in Broward County.

GITRDUNNN

The only way the Yankees can even think about seeing one of those two is through a three-way deal, 'cause they have absolutely nothing in the interest of the Marlins.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd be pretty pleased to get Wang, Cano and Hughes for Willis...but that's the kind of trade that both organizations get cold-feet over so it'll never happen, even if it does kind of make sense for both sides.

:plain :plain i've never seen anyone undervalue willis as much as you do.

The Marlins can get anything they want for Willis, and ANYTHING they want for Cabrera, and just about any team would be willing to pay that price. So why would they settle for the Yankees' mediocre prospects? Let's start to make some sense, people.

Why did they settle for the Cubs' and Mets' mediocre prospects?

Overrating players is fun and all, but Willis is no longer cheap, thus at least a partial interest on the Marlins part to gauge interest and a reasonable expectation of other teams to make a deal for a player who figures to set arbitration records for a pitcher for the next 5 seasons.

I'd love to hang on to Willis, love to, but the reality is that more likely than not we'll at least be taking offers sometime over the next two seasons. If it comes to that, I'd love to get Wang, Hughes and Cano.

Wang put up solid numbers as a rookie last season and figures to be a Pavano type innings eater with a mid 3's/low 4's ERA, Cano put up incredibly solid numbers as a rookie last season (.297/.320/.458) and figures to improve as he's only 22.

As for Phillip Hughes, well, if you think he's mediocre, then I'd hate to hear what you have to say about most of our prospects acquired during the fire-sale. As a 19 year old, at three different levels last season, he went a combined 9-1 with a 2.07 ERA, 101 K's and a .184 BAA.

That's a pretty damn good haul if we have to trade him.

Since when are Petit, Jacobs, and Nolasco mediocre?

Also, since when does Willis = Pierre in trade value? Or even Willis = Delgado? We're talking about one of the top lefties in the game who also happens to be under the age of 25 and is extremely marketable.

Jacobs is 25 with a bum shoulder and iffy defense and no OBP skills. He's average.

Petit, for all the numbers he puts up isn't a scout's dream and doesn't profile as an ace or #2.

Nolasco, for his stellar 14-3 in 2005 also had to repeat AA because he got lit up at AAA in his appearances there.

Plus, I was taking into consideration the other non-key pieces of the trade (like Pinto and Mitre) and the DLee deal and the LoDuca one for one deal.

I never, ever said that Willis was equal to Delgado or Pierre, thanks for putting words in my mouth.

For all the talent we traded (elite first baseman, top 5 "burner" and top 5 catcher) we didn't come away with anything remotely resembling a franchise cornerstone...just a lot of 2/3 starters and secondary offensive players.

With Willis we're also talking about the highest arbitration number awarded to a first year pitcher and a player who has had an up and down career. He's exciting and fun to watch, but he's been inconsistent for his career. We've been through this, until he proves that 2005 is what to expect, we may have missed the only chance to sell high.

Obviously the first choice is to keep him, I'd love to, everyone would, but if he has to be shopped, how can anyone in their right mind take issue with this haul?

A very young ace.

A premium player at an organizational position of weakness.

An innings eating middle of the rotation starter with a major league pedigree.

we can get much more for willis than what you propose. even if you don't personally think he's better than a middle of the rotation pitcher, it doesn't mean the average GM doesn't think he's a front of the rotation starter and likely future cy young. even if dontrelle doesn't do well this season (basically pulls another 2004), gm's will think it is a result of his surrouncing cast and not the pitcher himself. it's all about perception and your perception of dontrelle is not common among baseball executives.
