Posted April 9, 200619 yr rich waltz mentioned it before the game: you gotta love to watch dan uggla play. he hustles, and is always the first to get his uniform dirty...reminds me of pierre (and willis actually). he's been hitting well, been fielding well too. this kids gonna be special :thumbup
April 9, 200619 yr He's looking quite serviceable at 2B. He may not have tremendous range, or be able to turn athletic DPs, but he's consistent with the routine plays.
April 9, 200619 yr Dan is gonna be pretty good, maybe not as athletic as we're used too, but that was one darn good play he made.
April 9, 200619 yr anyone see that play he had at second to save a run? wow........  that play was sick...i had to watch it again with the tivo
April 9, 200619 yr it was a good play. Wish he could've turned the double-play ball too, would've only made the Wright triple score 1.
April 9, 200619 yr I think the fact that he bobbled the relatively routine DP ball made his inning ending play look spectacular. It was a nice play but Luis Castillo made those on a routine basis but simply made it look a lot easier. Yes he definitely hussles 110%. I would too for $300,000 plus a year. You have to be careful not to be so in love with the team that you overlook positional players shortcomings. Uggla appears to be a great guy and he gives it his all but there is no doubt in my mind that we could be a competitive team this year if we upgraded at 2B and CF.
April 9, 200619 yr It was a nice play but Luis Castillo made those on a routine basis but simply made it look a lot easier. Agreed & I don't think anyone expects a Castillo. At the beginning of the season there was some worry he'd be just dreadful at 2B though.  Overall he's been about how I expected. A gamer, but certainly not a smooth looking defender. It's not a matter of effort, you can tell the guy plays all-out. There will be some instances where it's not the "great" play that we need him to make, just the solid one. The double-play ball is a perfect example. It's not an easy play, but it's a play that a good 2B makes routinely. I'm okay with his play overall thus far, and he's done a fair job at the plate. It's about what I expected.

April 9, 200619 yr :notworthy even now when they're not wining i think that when they start playing teams less difficult like the astros and the mets the wins will show up more often,i don't wanna sin as an optimistic but it will take less than 2 years for this team or the base to develop as a contender, brian mohler has to go to the bullpen and johson has to open and if i were girardi I will keep an eye in vargas he might be the left hander reliever they need and nolasco deserves a chance as a starter
April 9, 200619 yr This kid is a gamer, built in the Phil Garner (the player) better know as scrap iron. He may not be the most gifted player but as several ballplayers will confirm Hustle makes it happen.
April 10, 200619 yr Too bad he was 0-4 at the plate. too bad you dont know how to read a box score pwned.
April 10, 200619 yr Too bad he was 0-4 at the plate. too bad you dont know how to read a box score Ooooh, you are right! Didn't have my glasses on. It was Olivo that was 0-4. Still, 1-3 isn't anything to party over.
